Welcome to the forum mate. I've got the 1.9 myself, not the easiest to find, waited a while for 2 to crop up, by the time I went to view it it was sold and raced to get the other one. Obvious lesson is be fast (y)

i think i might be pushing my luck but im idealy after one of the bright orange ones, not many around tho i see. im after either the 1.9 m-jet or maybe the 1.4 t-jet if there is one at the right price, whats generaly looked at as the better car? the m-jet or t-jet? or is it the classic whats better diesel or petrol situation? lol

Yeah probably. Most here seem to have the t-jet but after getting mpg in the 20's with my Hyundai Coupe I wanted the same power but mpg in the 40's minimum. So now managing 45-52mpg with the 1.9. Split over 60% town 40% motorway.

I hunted high and low for one though. Was a red one in stirling which was sold 2 hours before I got there so raced to Kilmarnock to get the one I've got now.

Good luck in the hunt though mate.

Put the lid back on that can!

I think the t-jet/m-jet debate ended in an draw. M-jets are more economical (45mpg vs 35) and are much more common but they do tend to eat their gearboxes, especially if re-mapped. T-jets are a bit low geared for frequent motorway use (23mph/1000rpm) but quicker off the line.

Having driven both i think they both have their benefits. The m-jet does pull like a train, altho the tjet isnt exactly slow lol. The fuel consuption is obviously better with the mjet but it all depends on what you use your car for, eg motorway or town driving.

I got the tjet because it was the right price, quieter than the diesel, and bright orange lol :D

thanks for the info folks, i have one question about the m-jet, i have seen on a few sites there is a 120 and a 130. what is he difference between the two? i thought possably the 130 is a 16v but i have never seen a 16v m-jet advertised anywhere as all the ones i can fine on autotrader are 8v.

sorry its porb a silly question but im new to these cars

The 120 is the standard tune for the Fiat 1.9 8V m-jet engine and comes in the comfort orientated 'eleganza' trim level only, for the 'sporting' models they tweeked the map to give it 130bhp but it is still 8V.

There are no 16V 1.9 grande puntos.

is there any noticable difference to the performance of the car or should i not really bother which one i find.
thanks for the reply btw

It basically comes down to whether you want a 5dr eleganza with soft suspension and more electrical kit or a 3dr sporting with stiffer suspension, bigger wheels etc (note: I think they did start making 5dr sportings at some point but they are rare). I think the official 0 to 60 time for the 120 is 10.0s while the 130 is 9ish. Not having driven both I'm can't really say if the difference is noticeable. Autotrader or parker's websites will give you more performance and spec details.

so are all 3dr m-jets all sportings? and what kit do you get on the eleganza that you dont get on the sporting? and can it be added to the sporting aftermarket easyly?

Eleganza is 5Dr only. It has climate control (optional on sportings), electric lumber adjustment, electric rear windows and either auto lights or wipers. I think it has cruise control too which was optional on early sportings and standard on later ones. As I said, the parker's website will detail it all.

aww ok cheers for your help, if i was to buy one without cruise control is it easy to retro fit?

ahh think i will keep my eye out and get one with it already fitted, thanks mate
