General New gearbox?

Ever since my engine mount broke its not been right. Also most of the 3rd gear is now gone so I need to change it. There’s only so much jolting around every time i press the accelerator I can take.

What should I expect to pay for a replacement? I'd prefer a refurb unless anyone here has one that is working okay they want to sell? My other question is will any (5 speed) panda gearbox fit my 1993 fire model or have they undergone changes? Also why does the garage want to change my clutch which is only a year old if they do the gearbox?

I'm getting fed up with this car now, i think its passed its sell by date, please restore my faith! lol

Sorry to hear about the gearbox.

He's in West Yorkshire, which isn't a million miles from you.

Regarding specific gearboxes, the one big difference I'm aware of is the change to the later (C451 ??) 'box from late 93 onwards.
It's a better gearbox, but the selection method is different - cables and rods, instead of just rods - and the linkages intrude into the car to the extent there is tray/shelf arrangement just to cover it.

I don't know how different the floor pan is, and I don't know if the driveshafts are different.

I've got no idea what the going price is for a garage job.

They probably want to do the clutch because it's easy to do while the gearbox is out, and it saves any come backs (and is a bit more profit for them too).

You're quite right...I am breaking a CL.
The engine starts first time EVERY time and the gearbox is suprisingly tight for a Panda.
I have some-one coming to look at the engine, but as far as I know they will not need the gearbox.
I am in Haworth, West Yorkshire (BD22)

Thanks as always for the help John. I think mine is the older one, it has only rods (two of them). The picture you have there is defiantly the year later model after mine, i wish i had that nicer interior. Pandafan, sounds like you have just what I need. I need to change this fairly soon before I totally lose 3rd gear, then I will require a new clutch if i drive it like that..
What year's that CLX? Let me know if you can sell the gearbox and how much you want for it and if I can afford it I'll take it off your hands. You're not too far away from me really and I always keep to my word when I say i'll come and collect.

I'm EVER SO GLAD that you're not in a rush as I'm rediculously busy at the moment.
