General New Fiat Uno comes 2009.

it's the new fiat 500 under development witch is based on the panda floor pan witch is also going to be used for ford to build there new ford ka on it isn't going to have a 2 pot turbo it will have the normal fiat 1.2
a 1.4 from the panda 100hp and and a 1.4 turbo as in the new bravo and also a 1.6 turbo with 185hp possibly the reason it looks so ugly is cos it's covered in weird shapes to hide it's true shape until launch day

it is not the new uno

This thread is getting older but I just can't shake the bad dream I keep having about driving a new Uno with the turbocharged two-cylinder engine... as I drive off, there's this demented lawnmower thrum from the two-cylinder engine (like my FIAT 126 that I hastily got rid off), and then just as the speedo hits 30, there's a jjjjuuuush of turbo boost and a huge BANG as the unbalanced crankshaft splits in two. Bits of FIAT go everywhere and then the dream morphs into whatever happens next, which depends on where I was driving. The motorway image is not a good one.

To recap, the 126 had 24bhp from its 652cc air-cooled engine. First gear was straight-cut non-synchro (and usually broken), and power was not exactly surplus to requirements.

The last time anyone tried to make a car with two-cylinders was, err, FIAT with the Panda 30. I can't see how a two-cylinder engine is going to be smooth enough for this day and age (must have two balance shafts or something!) and then to turbocharge it... it wouldn't be lipstick-on-a-pig, more like a turbocharger on a motorbike. Oh that's right, that's been done - but that was on a Suzuki Hayabusa which has a four-cylinder motor.

Well anyway, it's going to be interesting to see what the press make of it.

Yeah you're right on the thread getting older Alex but it's still an interesting one. I can't comment on the mule in the picture simply because we use pretty much any body to test the mechanicals these days. While I was at Fiat we were doing a number of concepts for the modified Panda platform of which the 500 was born. Interestingly there were a range of Fiat proposals and even an Alfa.

Now that the Company has finally committed to the 500 it's not surprising that they are interested in reviving the Uno name. It still lives on in South America anyway, and let's face it the Uno made Fiat the largest car manufacturer in the late 80's. It's a subjective thing as is the 500 but it will be very much a car for the future. If Fiat's doing one thing at the moment, it's probably the closest manufacturer to comply with forthcoming carbon dioxide emission legislation which is why the 1.3 multijet and bicilindro turbo are definite models. The real fun car will be the 1.4 turbo as the 1.6 will probably be reserved for the Grande Punto family of cars.

Who knows what it will look like but it probably won't be a rehash of the original Uno in terms of style. It could be quite good as long as they give it to the right people. Part of me wishes I was still there to do it. Strangely enough I'm now working for a company that is the polar opposite of Fiat in the industry.

It won't damage the original car in any way and might just be the catalyst to push it firmly into the realm of the classic..............................Matteo.

awww really? man, im actually sad about that! unos are classics! old skool!

dont bring em back! id actually be hacked off if they made a "new Uno Turbo"

bloody fiat

oh goody, it'll look like a GP then...............:(

based on the panda like the 500 isn't it?
don't think it'll come to the UK, prob go to eygyt and eastern europe like the palio

essentially the 500 chassis, getting great mileage from it now! as for markets...well some of the blurb i've read makes mention that on the back of the pandas success, they want to exploit the back catalogue, a name that meant something (yes i know.....:p), the uno was a big hit way back then, i think it's chances of a uk entry are pretty good, and since it fills a gap between the panda and GP, so much the better. unfortunately, this one looks a bit of a munter, the concept sketch:

is a bit more like it, but i still hanker for square headlights....

I posted a link up a while back about this, there was talk of a two cylinder turbo model :S

is it fiat 600?

i think its a good idea for a new uno ONLY if it looks similar to the original (which it wont). but it should have some aspects of the original design e.g have it quiet square e.g like the new panda is square like the original. i hope it aint going to be all rounded off like the grande punto and 500. i hate it when they re release an old name and it looks nothing like the original. theyve done it correct witrh the new 500:D and if they do it with the new uno then theyve got a winner.but if its just a new random rubbish shape with the uno badge then...they shouldnt bother.but by the looks of things fiat are trying really hard to keep todays new cars look good like the classics so i think they might be able to pull it off. *fingers crossed*. wont b the same as the original tho

that was the whole design concept of the uno, from teh megagamma concept, increase the height of the car to make the driver and passengers more upright, and you can make the overall vehicle slightly shorter, todays panda looms over my uno like a right monster!

anyone who's owned one, has been owned (or come damn close) by one at some point...if they say they haven't:
a) they arent trying hard enough:cool:
b) they're lying:D

hah :D so true.

In thoughts "Lalalaaa nice day, dry road, easy bend, oooohhhh dear (turbo spins up and gauge flys round) - phwar that was close...."

and of course the "NO! BAD CAR! (as the boost tries to kick in)"

The prototype UNO turned out to be the new FORD KA. :D

Edit: I see the Ford KA prototype, even so, it still doesn't look any better!

Are those photos real proto-types from Fiat?

From the side it looks like an MK2 Punto
From the rear, it looks like a Chevrolet-Daewoo Matiz
The front almost has that look of a Toyota Aygo, Pegeout 107 or Citroen C1, but not quite.
I suppose because of the success of the Nuova 500 and the New Panda, Fiat have automatically assumed that bring back other classics like the Uno.

Considering the Punto is the successor to the old Uno, and the new Panda is the successor to the Seicento, and Bravo is a replacement of the Stilo, I really don't know what class (size-range) of vehicle Fiat plan to put this in...

Why worry there is one model of Uno still under production from Brazile and marketed in SA it has a sporty look!:slayer:. reports says 400,000 of uno s are produced every year from Brasile.
We In India are waiting for the same the Flex version to be launched here.
but damn the after sales service of FIAT. But now has improved little here.
