hi guys, i need a new car... my punto has just had the head gasket done (+ skim) and now the floor needs welding and it needs a new sporting gearbox....

so ive decided to just get a new car, but my question is what car can i get for around £1000 thats good and cheap to insure. already considered most of the mass produced stuff. clio, corsa, 106, 206, 306, punto, focus, astra, saxos, polos, golfs, fiestas...

anyone know a car that is a hidden gem?

thanks,

Ash.

VW Lupo or Polo would be a good choice, the diesel Lupo can do 65 -70 mpg. A basic Focus with service history would be a good buy, not keen on Fords myself but the Focus is a good car. The choice for the terminally unfashionable would have to be a Skoda Fabia, good car but poor image.

Try finding a Lupo (or Arosa) TDi, which is a much more modern lump than the 1700cc SDi. There are literally a handful of cars nationwide at any one time and 1k would not buy one.

You can get a lot of car for that money.

You're right, diesel Lupos are like hen's teeth and you probably won't find one for £1000 or less. You can get a Lupo 1.0E for around £1000, that will give you in high 40's mpg average. For my money I would have either a Polo or a Punto.

must admit the stilos are tempting(on price)
however i would want the abarth or at least a high end model and all those toys/faults are scarey!

JTD... i got an 05 plate and its running nearly 55k at not even 4 years old and its going fine. only had a few faults with it as you would any car. getting 50ish mpg with a mixture of driving, group 5 insurance, decent tax group. if you get a later model as possible there a good buy (y)
