I just brought my first car today - a 1.4 Fiat Brava SX 1996 - and wow - she is beautiful - is there anything i should worry about - i've heard a lot about the cam belt? - you must excuse me as i am the least mechanical person in the country. it has 44k on the clock, and being 7 years old, i thought that quite impressive (dont take me for a fool, it has fsh. lol - i thank the old lady that had it before me for that) - the thing i notaced about it when i drove it at the dealership, was that water leaked from the handle?? - is that normal? - also, i wanted to jazz up the interior... any thoughts on the first steps to take?

appriciate all your help

The 1.4 was discontinued after 98ish and replaced with the 1.2 (80), From what experienc eof people on the forum say it is wickedly bad on fuel consumption.

I'm sure you'll be told about that.

Water from the Handle? I take it you mean the door handle? There are no water pipes in any of the doors so it will just be from outside, Was the car frozen and the dealers used water to defrost it? Was/Had it been raining?

Re: Welcome

Yes, do the belt NOW! Someone else here has a 1.4 that is 7/8 years old and the belt snapped. Only 50k odd on the clock.

DO IT!!!

for some reason, i dont agree with the bad fuel consumption, mine has always been good.
well till today when things went bang, cluck, click.
but till then i've been able to squeee nearly 400 miles out of a full tank, and thats only £30

Re: Re: New Brava

mine is a 1998 48k on the clock when i changed my cam belt and i was worried then.

you should gets yours done asap !!! it will only be around £110-£120 and the bill for cambelt failure is quite substantial :)

infact if i were you i wouldent even drive it, god knows how it is still going, lol get it towed to the garage :p

Re: Re: Re: New Brava

now now. no need to scare the brother.

Welcome to the forum mate. I say change the cambelt sharpish.

Now for your fun question.

You can fit 17 x 7 alloys with 205/40/17 rubber no worries.

The list is endless, and so is the labour time for modding a bravo. I recommend u follow Nige's advise and read the bravo guide.
