Technical New brake pads

I need to change the brake pads on the Marea, not a problem, but on reading the manual it says not to push the calliper piston back in as this can cause damage to the ABS system It also says that Sky pakard (not sure if that the correct name)make a tool for retracting the piston. My question is whats the difference between using a special tool to push the piston back in or as I have done for years on other cars the wooden handle of a hammer

you need to open the bleed nipple, then you wot force any fluid back through the valves.
