Hi everyone,

Last Saturday, I took delivery of my new Pasadoble Red 500 1.2 lounge. I am stunned by the many wonderful features of the car and delighted by the way it drives. I'm particularly impressed with how good it feels on the motorway.

A couple of queries. I had a problem with the radio yeaterday, when I started the car up yesterday, I had to enter the code into the radio/CD player. I popped in at the Fiat dealer on my way home and they suggested that I book the car in for them to check the electrics as this should have only happened if the battery had been disconnected.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Secondly, I have a rattle from somewhere in the dash, only noticable when travelling in town on uneven road surfaces. It's a bit annoying, has anyone else experienced this and traced where it was coming from?

Other than the above glitches, the car is close to perfection. The bodywork/paintwork/fit and finish etc. is faultless.

Many thanks.

Hi, congats on the delivery. As for your problems the radio/code thing i haven't heard much about. Most likely that when your car was delivered something could've been disconnected for safety reasons or maybe some work was done on your car before delivery and the dealer/deliverer didn't connect something back up properly. I'm sure this is nothing major to worry about. Just a bit of a hassle.

As for the rattle where abouts in the dash is it coming from? Passenger side? inside, outside sounding? etc? Little more specific please?

Hi eki,

The rattle appears to be coming from inside the car around the centre of the dashboard, somewhere near the radio/CD player. It sounds almost like a cable touching against something. As I said, I only notice it on uneven road surfaces.

I was surprised that I was given no running-in instructions whatsoever by the dealer. However, I'm trying to avoid the engine revs going beyond 3500 for the first 1000 miles, avoiding labouring and heavy accelerator pressure. It's paid dividends with other cars I've owned from new. I also own a Ford Mondeo 2.0 which has run just 60,000 in eleven years, still drives like a new car and has never had any oil put in between services.

Anyone else got any views on running-in?

Related perhaps - i.e. radio connector not pushed fully home?

I had my car ask for the code once around when I got it, put it in and I've not had any problems since :)

Hi 306maxi,

That's interesting. Are you saying that you took delivery of the car with the radio working and shortly afterwards it asked you for the code on just one occasion?

Yeah. Might have been a week or two after. Not asked for it again :) Put it in this time and if it ever does it again take it back to the dealer otherwise just put it down to wtf? :)

Same here. My understanding was that the radios are coded to the ECU somehow, so shouldn't prompt unless changed between vehicles or ECU changed. Maybe just a blip - did you try turning off and on again, as the IT Crowd would suggest?

The only thing I can think of is that I may have started the car as my son simultaneously turned on the radio.

Turning off and on again did not fix the problem, I had to enter the code.

It's been fine for the last couple of days. I suspect (and hope) that it won't happen again.

I borrowed the 500 last week and had the same problem, it asked for the code. I also noticed the cigarette lighter socket fuse was blown, so I am guessing when plugging in the sat nav it may have blown it. Put the code in and then changed the fuse and it has been fine ever since.

I don't think the radio's are coded on the 500, although this is the case on some other Fiats.

Found it!

The rattle isn't coming from the dash after all. It's coming from the headlining in the close vicinity to the interior courtesy light. If I press my hand on that area whilst driving, the rattle stops.

The car has got to go back to the dealer to have the white stripe/ chequered flag applied soon, I'll get them to sort the rattle out then.

It's so nice to have suddenly found where a rattle is coming from, it's difficult to accept such an irritation on a brand new car.
