Technical Need some help with my front side lights..

Hey there!

I've had this car since early Jan and only realised that there's an extra set of lights on the front that don't seem to come on whatsoever, not really sure if their front fog lights or something else I went to a garage and asked about it they had no clue and said go to a Fiat garage and ask them, but I thought I'd ask on here if anyone could shed some info on these.

They're fog lamps I believe, but on some they're blanks

If a bulb is there it might be a case of the wrong headlight(s) units have been fitted after a knock etc

Haven't had the chance to see if there's any bulbs in there, I'd feel stupid if there isn't then I'd rest my case I'm assuming to check is take the backing off and have a little nose about? Of course side lights, main beam and full beam, rear fog lights all work Also are they controlled by the fog light switch on the dash when turned on? Or are they self controlled?

The front fog button is next to the rear fog button. If theres no button it looks like the headlights have been replaced at some point.

Yeah there's no button near the rear fog button, but could I easily fit a front fog button in there and wire it up probably won't be easy but it'll be worth it in the long run?

You won't be able to wire it in conjunction with the car due to the CANBUS system, but believe some on here have made and wired in separate wiring harnesses and got fog lamps operational. Not nessecarily worth the hassle IMO due to the lack of legal use they'll get.

Ha ha talking from experience Jamie MK2 with a candle on the bonnet? If I ever see you on the roads with a candle on the bonnet I'll be sure to give you a thumbs up!

But yeah as you and the other guy have said it isn't worth the hassle, I'll just forget it and find something else to modify on my car

Calling them something different doesn't get around the law and compliance. It's to do with their light output as to what they are and if they have to switch off with the headlamps or not.

Not a good idea leading someone into trouble with the law

Well there is the answer on the thread to get them to switch off with the headlights on, plus there isnt any issues with them here in Ireland.

Interesting how there is a theme about accident repair going on. Noticed several parts on my car with newish looking stickers.

I've seen so many boy racers where I live that have done it and I'd say 1/5 will get pulled by the police for it, so you have that risk on your back but surely there must be a way to switch them off when you turn your headlights on?

That last one says "Road legal when used in conjunction with your vehicles original side postion lights" which is exactly the same as what my lights do.

I was going to ask that, cause I'm tempted to do it, but want to make sure everything is legal...last thing I want is getting a slap on the wrist for having them

There isnt any e mark or type approved mentioned on that last link either.

I done this to make my car more visible to other road users, other road users can see the car far better than the standard sidelights, so you dont have people pulling out in front of you because they couldnt see you i.e; somebody pulling out of a junction with the sun blinding them and not being able to see the car coming.
