My beloved Doblo needs help.
After driving along and finding my steering really heavy my son and I pulled into the services ... After speaking to my eldest son he said it sounded like the belt had come off !!! And to ring the rac so I did .
The guy came out said yes it was the power steering belt had come off but he had no idea how or why this would have happened. BUT he couldn't put it back on as he discovered my anti roll bar was snapped ....
Again he said no idea how that could have happened ...
So anti roll bar has been replaced by son and friend .
Now has anyone possibly got some tips advice as to

How easy a job is it to replace the power steering belt ( even though the boys ((in their mid 20's)) are calling it an alternator belt ?)

Any reasons as to why this could have come off but the belt looks fine no signs of damage ...rac guy was suprised at this.

Sadly owning an ipad mini I couldn't buy the cd on sale on ebay as no place to stick said disc "
So would be very grateful for pictures run down of how to get this stupid belt back on using the available labour I have to help get my boy back on the road ...and it promise I will wash and Hoover him and even bribe my eldest into detailing him .
Thank you in advance

The usual reason for an intact belt coming off is a squint pulley.

This could be anything from a worn bearing in an idler or tensioner to the crank pulley coming apart.

The crank pulley is a Dual Mass affair. That is to say, centre is metal with a band of rubber around it and a metal outer. The rubber is there to absorb any vibrations. But the rubber does break down and it's worse if it gets contaminated by oil.

What I would do is check it by feeling for any looseness at the pulley, then individually check each pulley, tensioner & idler to see if any of them are loose or rough feeling.

If they all feel tight, start the engine and look at the crank pulley. You will see if it is running out of true. Mine is slightly off, but not enough to affect the belt yet. It will need replaced though, so I am keeping an eye on it.

Thanks for your help.
All seems fine other than trying to get said belt back on.
Any tips on that please?

Also everyone seems to call this belt by a different name
Power steering belt
Alternator belt
Fan belt
Serpentine belt.
The car drove fine just had the steering of a slow moving tractor.
Help save my Dobbie my sons want me to send him to the scrap yard in the sky and get another car.

Auxiliary Drive Belt is the name I call it. But it could be called an alternator belt I suppose.

Ok, what year, engine, does it have air con?

The reason I need to know the above is that there are different routings for engines with or without A/C and such.....

Oh thanks just tried to ring fiat .....all they wanted to do was book it in ..Hello on a budget here.

Gets better fiat called it a serpentine belt.???

Ahhhh my boy is mended yiiipppeee.
Just the back door to sort now as it won't open .

I have to say a huge thank you to my sons mate Alex who gave up his time to spend it laid flat on his back under my car .
He had been on track but YES after working out how to release the pressure from the what ever it's called it was a quick job and I even helped or maybe got in the way.
Can't say my oldest son was impressed as he was hoping Dobie was dead and I would buy a proper car!!!
Alex was slightly concerned as there seemed to be abit of jumping up and down ???? Man term !! In the tensioner....He also asked if my boy had always sounded like that hahaha what an insult my boy always sounds like a tractor. But he's my working tractor dents and all. As promised I'm now going to clean him..AND hopefully get some advice on how to make his lift up boot door open as it doesn't either by pressing the key button for Central locking or by putting the key in the lock. God he will be bionic when he's all done

Glad you got it sorted.

May I suggest if the tensioner is jumping around, it could need replaced ;)

The spring may be weak, but I would still be checking other pulleys are running true.

hi, glad you sussed it..!!:)

it's referred to as a "serpentine belt" as it drives on BOTH sides / faces);)

the back door;
have a look in the menu / control panel,
there is often an option in there for the way the door locks electrically,

I've not got a doblo.. but this was the fix for our similar age / era Idea,

have fun..!!,(y) charlie

Poor Alex think he's run for the hills
Will give him a few days and drop it into conversation . Luckily I have a back up in my 90 yr old grans Nissan almera !!! With only 56,000 on the clock and he's 20 yrs old so as long as my Dobster is ok in the long run I'm happy

Thank you for that not up on parts terms as you nay have guessed.
Had a quick look most seem to be about doblo double back doors my boy has a lift up door . Will keep looking

Just reading this,is it noisy on idle if so crankshaft pulley will need replacing.(y). As for the back door you will need to drill the rivet to get the handle off to gain entrance if you can't get to the back of vehicle. Then clean the selenoid with wd40, oil then grease. Then just use a normal nut and bolt to re-attach handle. Just read up and over door but must be the same principle.
