Hi Everyone, Im trying to write my albums onto a CD in MP3 format but when i put the disc in i get "CD ERROR", I've read the manual (no names longer than 20 letter's etc), i just wonder if its the way i'm writing it?, I've tried using ITUNES and TOAST setting them to MP3 mode (by the way i'm using a MAC running OSX) any ideas would be appreciated.

P.S found some nice valve caps to finish of my wheels, check out the jpegs.

I had a similar problem using CD-RW but CD-R appears to be fine.

My head unit will play both cheap CD-R and CD-RW, haven't found one so bad it won't play yet.

I personally would suspect the format of the disk, I'd try doing it with a common bit of burning software on a PC rather than a Mac. BTW you can't play MP3s from the CDC either and you needto run MP3gain on you files or they'll clip badly on the SatNav+

I have the same problem. I have used iTunes on my Windows 2000 PC to burn mp3's to a TDK CR-R. My computer plays them from the CD prefectly. But when I put the disk in the Connect Nav+ console - it gives me "CD error" then "No CD-DA".
It plays cd's which have been burnt in the audio format perfectly. Any ideas? I have read the manual but it is not very specific. Bryan.

I suggest u download "Nero", it's a very good CD burning program thet makes very good quality CD's, always playable in the Stilo Sat Nav+ and if u set it right it'll adjust the gain and normalize the volume so u 2don't have to run the songs through MP3 gain. I think there's even a version of Nero for Mac.
Best of luck

the cd needs to be burnt as a data disc and "finalized". best to use the non-cheapo discs if you can afford them as theres less chance of coasters that way. verbatim's CD-R are a very good choice btw :)

Hey there. I burned two CDs today - one was a 'MP3' cd and the other a 'data cd' with mp3's on it. When I put either of these CD's into the Nav+, it starts by saying "Reading Cd"...then I get excited when it says "Exploring MP3".....then it's all over when the next message says "CD Error" - and when I hit escape, the message showing says no CD-DA.
I *think* I have burned the CD's correctly....the disks are TDK brand...CD-R. In my software there was no option to finalize...Has anyone got any more ideas? The only other thing I can think of is trying a different brand of disk. Is there any limit to the size of the mp3 files? Or the bit rate? Could this be related to my Nav+ system only being version 8.3? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

I am trying to keep it as simple as possible for both me and the car so I burn them straight to disk - no folders at all. I really need to take my burnt cd's to a sound system which is modern enough to play mp3's - at least then I can narrow the problem down to either my burning or the car......hmmmm.

I have had a similar problem with MP3s not playing after I changed the computer program that was compressing the CD tracks to MP3. Finally figured out that the new program was defaulting to a TagV2 (or something similar) when storing information on artist, track name etc. I changed it to store the information in V1 and the MP3s play fine. In my new Stilo I see that the manual now mentions that the player is incompatable with tag info in the new version. I am writing this from memory (at work), if you want I can look up the exact terms for the tag info at home tonight.

Thanks FiatFamily and VitSov. The bit rate is at 128 or over. FiatFamily, if you are able to tell me the name of the software you use, I would really appreciate it. In my software there is no mention of tags....so that may well be the problem.
I look forward to hearing from you! Cheers!

Hi Tagoso,
Nice to see someone else in NZ with a Stilo!
The software I use to compress CD to MP3 on my PC is Audiograbber. I found it as a free down load on the internet. It works very well. In the hand book for Sat/Nav+ it states that the MP3 player is not compatable with ID3TAG-2. This is what Audiograbber defaults to. On one of the menus I ticked the box to state "Use ID3TAG-1. Now they play just fine. Audiograbber also includes an automatic normalisation function so that all the CDs end up at the same volume.

Woohoo! It worked! I finally managed to burn an mp3 cd which works in my car. I'm not sure what did it - I ended up getting Nero and selecting the basic tag option.
I am going to Taupo (from Auckland, approx 4 hours) next weekend so I will have some tunes to keep me occupied. Thanks everyone for your help. Next mission is to get the GSM phone to go......

Glad to see that it now works. I suggest that you look at putting songs in folders. It will drive you mad if you don't. Finding the song you want becomes a nightmare. I save the MP3 tracks from each CD in a folder with the name of the Artist. Once you have all the folders completed just copy the folders to the CD. This way you can move from CD (folder) to CD by holding the skip forward button down for a few seconds, short presses move you from song to song within the folder.

I got the GSM phone working fairly cheaply by getting a Vodophone prepaid sim card (about $30-$35). Just follow the instructions in the manual regarding the correct way to insert the holder.

Thanks. I have burnt about 148 songs to the disk and see what you mean about having to go through them. For the moment, I am happy just to leave them on shuffle let it go. When I get some time I will re-organise them. Will post any further re the GSM phone in the correct forum. Thanks again.

@FiatFamily:

Thanks for the tip fella! :) ... burnt a disc last night following all the tips on this thread and the disc works a treat.
