So, a friend I work with drives an old skool Escort RS Turbo. He has challenged me (After I couldnt stop talking about my Panda) to a race at Santa Pod drag strip at the end of the summer!

I of course accepted, even though my Panda will not start at the moment (hopefully fixed tomorrow!) and I think it would be incredible if I could beat him, which of course Im going to try my best to do, and I think I may have a chance, as I have already specced alot of the things I need to get / do. That and the fact I know how his car runs, accellerates ect, and I know he has a problem putting power down in the first 2 gears, as it just wheelspins. So as long as I can get a good pull away Im sorted!!

Of course if anyone has any advice then its much appreciated, but watch this space for Debbie (I finally named her!) Turbanda (Thats TURBo pANDA) taking shape!

With all respects, an Escort RS turbo pulling away gently (with no wheel spin) will still wipe the floor with a Panda 750.

If you want to beat the Escort, then check out Smokeme's site (he used to post on here and used to race a turbo Panda down the 1/4 mile). Or fit a 16v 1242 FIRE as per Panda Sport.

Otherwise enjoy the Panda 750 for what it is, and burning rubber down the 1/4 mile against a turbo hot hatch is not it

Let us know these details and we can give some more specific advice although from experience your timescale sounds a bit optimistic.

Wise words above. It's a small Fiat with 769cc. It doesn't belong on a drag strip.

Who said I was keeping the 750 engine in there? You guys didnt really think I was gonna try and tune that engine? Naahhhhhh.

Am looking into the 1242 Punto 85 to replace it. Then the fun begins. And timescale? I have a few months to do it, plenty of time!!!

Tarquin, with all due respect, if you are struggling to diagnose a non-starting issue you may very well struggle to fit a 1242 16v engine with all the work that this involves. Are you going to pay someone to do it or do you have very understanding friends?

also doubt a 1242 16v panda will have a rs tub down the strip (with all due respect ofc).. as it just cant match the torque of the turbo and is going to be well behind on the power
