General My GPS has departed...

We use a 6 (nearly 7) year old mk2 punto as a runaround, over 80k on the clock & only issue was a sticking outer door handle (that snapped off...honestly:eek:) not bad especially as the wife isn't the smoothest with the clutch, kids run riot in it & I often hack it to get to work on time. After its warranty ran out servicing was more.....spread apart shall we say, yet shes never missed a beat, never had a steering/ECU/head gasket fault etc

With the GP I see minor (often trim) niggles & only one engine failure (due to owner) which I have mentioned elsewhere on the forum.

Cheap parts (although some recently have shot up in price) good spares availability (both genuine & aftermarket) & theres always a few for sale/wanted in local ads means the punto in all its forms over the years will always be a strong consideration for a budget new or used car.

I've done the more expensive car route. It just ain't worth it! As I said, there were other considerations made in getting the GP aside from the money ones...

And Mr T, I have thought about the old fashioned breaker's yard route - yet to find a GP in one! If you know of another route of repair that won't bankrupt me (not quite that bad but I just moved house 2 months ago so am hardly flush with cash at the moment as it is) I'd be very grateful to know! Oh pretty please... :D:p

And wellfan is my fan! Wooo :D

Really are issues for me with all of the Fiat's I have bought (and there have been very many). So it is all about experiences. My experiences have been pretty awful. I have been warned by the wife that I have never, ever to buy another Fiat. Had my eye on the Afa MiTo. But she soon sussed it out as a Fiat.

Really feel bad for dissing the GPS. Also feel bad about moving elsewhere. Cos T, and you other guys are very helpful. No doubt, i'll be back looking for advice when my next car plays up. Probably will be a Fiat.

Were'nt you issues mainly dealer related?

;)

you cause the moderators of the forum no trouble, remember I read just about every new post in GP section (and others I mod over) daily so you get to 'know' people in a sense. Some people you have to constantly watch others you know are no problem.

I have an update...

I owe a BIG thanks to FIAT who have kindly agreed to cover the cost of repairs - so I am £591 still in pocket. I own an even bigger thanks to the FIAT dealership who pursued this for me. Am relieved to say the least :)

Glad it worked out in your favour. Why don't you consider buying warranty for your GP? My car is over 3 years old and bought one, the reason being I had a great deal of things going wrong during the warranty period... But guess what? 5 months after the Fiat/dealer warranty expired and the car performs faultlessly! At least I have peace of mind, so I strongly recommend you buy a policy.

Thanks georgios1976. That was my intention as I can't afford the gamble again lol. It's always sod's law though, isn't it?

haha dont bother me, if we cant hash out problems on here, where can we!

My GPS annoyed me something rotten sometimes, but I have respect for the fact it managed that many miles without a serious glitch, tbh its the least I could expect, but when you maintain your car well, dont abuse it etc I feel you should be able to rely on it with no big bills for say 100k miles? That just doesnt happen with any modern car and im glad to be out of one frankly. Having said that, the 500, driven by my sister who is not shall we say the most 'sympathetic' of drivers has been 100% faultless in every way, a better car than the GP I reckon. (Runs for Cover lol)
