Being in sales for a big oil company, I tend to go to Goodwood to support our customer engagement stand every year.

It's not easy - 4 x 12 hour days on your feet talking about our products and services, but it does have a few perks.

Didn't get a chance to look at everything I'd have liked to have seen - but I did get an invite from the Duke to his Drivers' Ball. Always a good event with fireworks and film show on the lawn and a top name band - this year it was Sister Sledge!

And me annoying some famous drivers.

Mika was my favourite - after a few too many glasses of free bubbly, I spotted him walking past me, pointed and exclaimed "It's Mika Hakkinen". He smiled, laughed and when I apologised and asked for a photo, just said "I'm pleased anyone still wants their photo with me". Top man.

I also nudged Sir Jackie and said "I bet you're loving this, a bit of 70s disco!"... thoroughly disgraced myself!

Great stuff top blokes they are.

A long lost friend has a great photo (she took) of Jackie Stewart talking to Nikki Lauder with a 12 years old Damon Hill in the background playing with a spanner. She never published it which was a shame.

We would be talking Shell then!

My gad worked for Shell for well over 25 years as a research chemist. We shill have his Shell lapel and tie awards for service one with a ruby and the other a diamond. Not sure if Shell do this any more?

But now you have let your cat out of the bag can you answer the following:

Helix Ultra ECT C2-C3 0W-30 Oil

How can this be C2-C3. Either it is C2 or it is C3.

ACEA specifications state for Viscosity at high temp. & high shear rate:

C2 : >= 2.9 mPa.s
C3 : >= 3.5 mPa.s

A C3 can not be a C2?

The reason I ask is that the Fiat / Alpha MultiAir engines stipulate C2. Other manufactures who onlt do a C2 oil do not list/recommend their oil for MultiAir engines. However Shell do.

Now I would ask my dad all this were he still alive as he used to research and formulate oils etc. for both Shell and Exxon.

I think I all MultiAi engine owners would like to understand C2-C3 Helix situation.

Sorry to put you on the spot :D

I’m guessing it meets C2 specs but is also fine for engines requiring C3.

But I’d need to check with a specialist.

Well that would be great. No rush Schumi2001.

From a end user/consumer point of view C2-C3 is very confusing as to my knowledge no other manufacturer markets a C2-C3. It is either C2 or C3 with C3 manufacturers declining use in MultiAir engines.

And yes thanks for those great pictures / experiences. Attending any trade show / other engagement as a representative just about always means you miss most / all of the event. I'm pleased you got to venture away from your corporate stand and hopefully had a bit of fun and enjoyed yourself.

Just quoting this as I was a bit short yesterday - the joys of getting up early, loading my bike onto the back of the BMW and driving from South Wales (leaving 7am) to the Ibis at Canary Wharf, cycling into the office (near the London Eye) for meetings, before cycling back to Canary Wharf at around 6pm.

Trade shows are exhausting - this is my 2nd this year - we also did the Forecourt & Convenience Retailing show at the NEC. It's good that the business recognises this and sends us to the ball, though!

I haven't seen the Partridge-esque tie and pin badge gift set for a long time - we did have a dealer who had one, but we fell out with him, so I haven't seen him in a few years...

I've just put the oil question to our lubes technical manager - this is one of the great things about Goodwood - you get to network with people from other parts of the business you usually wouldn't meet.
