Technical My Chinq wont start

Hi,

A few days ago it started to lack power and at idle it was choppy as though it was running rich, the spark plugs were a bit sooty on inspection although they were OK prior to this. It stalled in traffic and has never started since.
The fuel pump is priming on ignition (I can here it hum), there is a spark at all the plug leads and petrol is getting to the throttle body.
Could it be a sensor? Has anyone got any ideas before I loose all of my hair.

I'd check the cam belt hasn't slipped first.

Cam-belt is OK, could it be the map sensor? Oh! by the way I forgot to say in my last post that it's a Chinq Sporting (N)reg.

To be honest if the lambda or map sensors were duff, I'd have expected it to start but run rough - always ready to be overruled though!
