hi, thought i would share some usefull info on doing a full service on a multipla jtd.
firstly, i ordered all service parts from shop4parts.co.uk , good price and
very quick delivery of genuine fiat spares.
A point before servicing your own multipla, check the sump plug, the
original is poor quality and round with a star socket slot in the middle, mine was conveniently rounded off inside!, had a mechanic friend use
a specialised socket to remove that bites into worn nuts.
soooo... check that sump plug and order one with a new washer from shop4parts (its a better plug that has a 13mm nut on it) if in any doubt
of the original coming off ok.
get your engine oil to running temperature (go for a run in car to achieve this)
turn off engine and remove sump plug and have a container to collect oil.
remove oil filter and after smeering seal on new filter with clean oil, screw on new filter hand tight.
one all old used oil has stopped dripping from sump, re-fit sump plug and
fill approx 4.5 litres of oil into oil filler on top of engine.
i used the recommended selenia turbo diesel oil.
next off was new air filter- very easy, undo phillips screws, remove cover,
hoover out any debris under old filter and put in new filter and replace cover and screws.
next was pollen/cabin filter- located passenger side outside front windscreen under clip off panel- remove old filter and slot in new one
paying attention to airflow direction arrow (arrow on filter to point to windscreen).
next i replaced fuel filter- easy job, just undo some nuts on the bracket first that holds the filter to the car, press in and remove electrical connectors and quick release fuel lines, lift up filter and unscrew entire filter.
now screw on new filter and connect fuel lines and electrical connectors then bolt bracket back to engine, turn ignition key to mar a few times to facilitate new diesel into the filter prior to turning on engine-job done.
i also removed and cleaned the egr valve- (search for many posts detailing this on site), i strongly beleive egr valve should be cleaned every 12 months.
car runs great now
