Technical multipla cambelt tensioner info needed??

hi , im in the process of doin my cambelt on a 100 elx 16v petrol version an im having probs with the tensioner , when i take up the slack on the tensioner there is a dot which has to line up with the centre pointer on the tensioner , however ive tried every way possible to do this with no luck, it just wont budge !! i even took the tensioner back to the motor factors and they changed it for me only to find that it made no difference , im useing the proper sealey tools to do it and im putting enough pressure on the adjuster to even bend this tool a bit . as a stop gap ive put the old tensioner back on and this do,s what its supposed to do and lines up right , ive added a pic of the tensioner i bought which is the same as the old one , is there anyone had similar issues with this or am i doing something wrong ? any info or help appreciated thanks gaz
