Hi, already asked this in the FIAT talk section, but does anyone know out about the new punto HGT with a JTD engine?

I'm interested as I ordered one in October, but changed to a Stilo when I was told it wouldn't be ready until March.

I am well happy with my Stilo, I reckon its more suited to me really, but I would still be very interested in the Punto.

Cheers, James.

HGT multijet is a lot slower than the petrol HGT but is still faster than the Sporting and is well-equipped (much better than your Stilo - satnav is standard for instance I think) and a lot cheaper to run.

It's a full 5 insurance groups lower than the HGT (9 rather than 14) and is at 60 in less than 10 secs. It's naturally very econmical.

Although it only packs around 95 or so bhp it has a great deal of torque, enough to make the difference on the motorway when overtaking probably. All in all, it's probably a sound choice, and certainly one of the sportiest and most refined diesels you'll find at the price. I guess it really depends whether you need Stilo space.

No satnav, it does have the sub and CD changer tho, and climate control. I would say its about even with the Stilo in terms of kit, it doesn't have things like the armrest and centre rear headrest like the Stilo. Would be quicker I'd think tho, although my Stilo doesn't hang around!

On paper the petrol engine is much quicker, but I wonder if the difference would be narrowed on the road? As diesel do tend to drive better than their stats suggest.

I'd be interested to have a drive in one sometime, might go get a test drive when they eventually arrive on the forecourts.:)

Had a look at Stilo Dynamic standard equipment in my Fiat catalogue - not bad for Dynamic trim level. Fiat clearly moving things on as cars become so much better specced.

The main differences do just seem to be the slightly sportier feel of the HGT, with sports seats for instance. Stilo has an impressive options list as well although I bet that would start pushing the price way up.

I reckon the diesel would be a fine drive, perfectly adequate unless you want the sound and ultimate performance of a true petrol hot hatch. Like I say, when you come to overtake at 70 I reckon there'd be little between the two engines. Even if the petrol was faster, I reckon it'd be noisier at that speed, though it might be a nice noise:)

Yeah the Stilo Dynamic is farely well equiped, but in the Stilo range, its right at the top bar the Abarth, no eleganza like in the Punto range!

The options list is excelent, I would have like to spec a few, like leather and 17's, but unfortunately I was in a real hurry for my car and couldn't wait on a factory order.

Like you say, with modern diesels the real advantage is rolling acceleration.

BTW, my dynamic does have sports seats! Same style I believe as in the Abarth (different trim tho), they don't look all that different in pictures to lower model seats, but u can tell the difference when u sit in them:D

Like I said, I still fancy a drive of a multijet HGT, might try and push my girlfriend towards one... then I get to use both;)

My gf has the wealthy parents. They bought her a new car but didn't get me a new Punto Sporting.

Nah, can't get anyone to foot my bills either:(

More satisfying when the cars bought and paid for by yourself:D

I go to Durham Uni, there are soooo many Rah Rah's there all drivin round in mini's, sorry MINI's Daddy bought them, its nice to now be able to match them and say I bought my own[^]

Tell you what I could fancy next tho (money situation dictating) is the Stilo with the new 140bhp JTD.

One thing I don't understand is, there is apparently a 120multijet(I heard is gonna directly replace my current model), so y didn't Fiat put this in the Punto HGT to put it more on the level with the petrol 1.8[?]

Ahh, Durham boy! Know plenty of people up there from my old school.

I guess I'd have to fall in the rah-rah category, but I was never spoilt, more like the anti-spoilt. Had to pay for my car myself all right, hence it is what it is! Still, you are right, it is kind of satisfying!

Maybe the 120 multijet is a little heavy for the Punto? Maybe they will put in there yet.. in the 2005 model.

the good thing about the standard jtd and multijet engines, is that when they have been tuned, they will p*ss all over the petrol version of the hgt unfortunately.

Pritch, which school did you go to? Know anyone studying engineering?

Craig, yeah, fairly impressive what chipping a JTD can do, I could fancy getting my Stilo done if my insurance co were in agreeance:(

So what you replacing your HGT with? I take it its a mk2?

I went to Clifton College in Bristol. Know a Jon Reece, or Matt Howard-Cairns? I think Jon's still doing electronic engineering.

i might get a punto jtd.
i should be able to get the power up from 80-85hp to 130 ish.
if i want to fit a larger turbo, 150hp would be possible.

btw, you can get your stilo jtd to put out 155hp
also, the torque would be hugely improved!

You have been making notes then Craig - lol
