the mrs is away visiting her sister in new york, and flew on BA from heathrow, all was well and she arrived safe and sound, but there was an odd thing about the flight.....

a jumbo jet carries about 350 odd people plus crew, her flight carried a grand total of........21!!!!! apparantly first class and it's food suits her nicely thank you very muchly.....:bang: :bang: :bang:

Next time book her on an old Dakota(y)
 
Flights still usually operate for two key reasons:

1) To ensure they don't lose the slot at Heathrow
2) Positioning the aircraft to New York

When I flew back from Hong Kong last November there was a grand total of about 120 people on a 250 capacity plane with 8 of us in business. However the flight left London back to HK pretty much full.

Most airlines though only have to sell First Class and prehaps a few Business to break even. So some flights can easily run as a loss.

21 people is awesome though on a Jumbo, perfect excuse to sit literally anywhere and usually the crew don't care :D
