My friend john bought a panda diesel multijet on my recommendation because i am so pleased with mine ... Now his has always been a good starter but drive it for half an hour then turn off for half an hour or so it will start just as easy but will rattle and be a little lumpy. it is also not as smooth at low revs as mine...he took it to various experts who diagnosed a faulty injector dripping in after a run and making it smoke and lumpy but they could not be sure which one so it would be expensive to replace them all on the off chance it was the fault.. Now then the other day he had a management light come on so I put my seally code reader on and the faults came up as turbo over boost and sensor, a problem i.ve had with mine in the past so we checked the waste gate actuator with a foot pump and that was operating as it should but even after turning off the management light it would re light around 2 seconds after restarting the engine .. He then took the car home and as he uses the car every day fitted a new pressure sensor in the inlet manifold , the old one was full of soot... the engine is transformed from as it was no lumpyness pulls from low revs just like mine.. now then why...... I assumed the sensor only told the ecu if there was over boost in the system now I think there must be a diapham in there sensing boost pressure through the range... if thats the case was it sticking after a half hour run telling the ecu there was more boost than there was causing the ecu to put more fuel in .. may be causing over rich .. lumpyness and smoke....... now my car has done 135000 miles now on a tank full the trip will say an average speed of 42 mph,71 mpg now when I work this out for myself its aound 60mpg . Now most of its life i drive on a dual carriage way at around 65 ish there is one paticular hill where if i put my foot down i can see loads of grey smoke in my mirror as it clears its system which i have accepted as the norm then once at full boost 75ish there will be no more smoke...Now then as it is 10mpg over optomistic on the trip and if my thinking is correct is it possible the sensor sticks with soot so it does not register atmospheric pressure any more so slighty over fuels up to max boost not enough to put management lights on but enough to waste fuel... Im thinking some kind of reader must be available to plug in a laptop as I drive to let me know what is going off Ideas please

Greetings!

You can buy a bluetooth odb scanner device from ebay for less than £10.

Then you install the torque lite application (free) on an Android phone.
Drive the car and check the software to get real time info.

Best wishes

Tempted by that myself, links not working though, I got rediected to alibaba.com which looks dodgy - wasn't he a bit of a tea leaf? :(

There's plenty of obd2 scanners on ebay for a tenner or so. I have an ELM327 which works fine on my '06 multijet hooked up to my laptop with multiecuscan software (there's a free version and a paid one). I would suggest if the ecu is so overly optimistic over emperical measurement then there's almost certainly one or more injectors putting in more fuel than ordered to each time hence the smoke until the turbo supplies maximum air to burn that fuel. You need to identify the dud injector and get a new one. I strongly suspect the new one will need coding to the ecu to function and this will probably require the paid version of any software.

Thanks pgainf and popshot as I dont have android I was looking at connecting to a lap top and saw there was wire or blue tooth connection I am going for the wire connection I presume the multiscan soft ware you refer to comes in the 2 discs it is supplied with .. as you have more experience than me i hope it will show if its one injector behaving differently or a sensor .will the soft wear show the parameters an injector or sensors should be working in.Like ive said before at 60mpg I should.nt complain but if fuel is being wasted I would like to know why.... if there is interest i can report my findings
