Has anyone got an Hard Disk based MP3 player installed instead of a CD Changer??

I am wanting to hook up something like an Apple iPod...

Has anyone had it done or know how to do it with the ConnectNav + System??

I would love to know how to do it on a tight (ish) budget with out ripping the car apart...

i'm fed up of swapping cd's!

Does anyone know of a CD Changer that can read MP3 Disks???

I replaced the Fiat radio/cassette with a sony MP3/CD player £180, I used a fascia I got off ebay for £15 with a small, cubby hole below the player.
At 128 kbps I get 10-14 albums depending on length, who needs a changer & I don't lose the glovebox!! I have 6 CDs in the car 56 albums in total. If I get some new albums I can burn a new CD for pence in minutes and If they get nicked I've lost a few quid not hundreds.

Yeah the problem is i have the ConnectNav+ Sat nav System that can read MP3 CD's in the same drive as the Navigation CD and I have the Blaupunkt 5 CD Changer in the glove box...

I'd rather keep the Nav CD in the Sat Nav and replace the CD Changer with something portable and MP3able!!

Hi Mike,

You got any pictures of the dash with the new fascia installed? I've been contemplating it but have been put off as the ones without a cubby make the dash look too empty.

Jetweed, how long you in your car for at a time like mate? The MP3 should hold around 10 albums worth, plus the 5 in the glovebox, talk about a vast collection;)

Purple, have you thought about doing a double din install? For example a blaupunkt changer and headunit? (the non stilo much cheaper changer that is;)) or if your being fancy, a sat nav unit and pop out screen?

That would look ace, but too expensive for me:(

I've thought about the double din option but wasn't sure if it was a true double din gap.

May have to have an investigate...

I'm sure it is, I know the focus is 1.5 din, and the stilo's opening is much bigger.

There's not much info on the net unfortunately, I might ask someone at halfrauds as they always seem so knowledgeable[)]

It is double DIN hole but I'm nt sure you could get two DIN units in as the surround is slightly bigger than the part of the unit that goes into the dash. A double DIN unit would fit but be a sod to cut the fascia adapter neat enough to look good.

I'll get some pics for you later in the week purple, it's cold and wet outside now!

have you thought about an FM odulator for your MP3, thats the way i do it, all I need now is a good quality bracket to get it to usable height

where did you get your FM Modulator from?

Apparently you connect it to the cars aerial? Is that easy to do?
I have no knowledge of car wiring!

I don't want to rip my cars dash to pieces cos i know i won't be able to put it back together again..

I picked it up from ebay,(http://stores.ebay.co.uk/PDA-ADD-ONS_W0QQsspagenameZl2QQtZkm). It's a Linex one @ £17.99. no need to rip apart the dash, mine sits in the armrest box between the seats with the antenna running behind the passenger seat and secured to the headrest mounting point. [8D]

it works well for me, not to everyones taste. mainly due to the occasional noise due to the FM transmission and also due to the lack of control from the head unit.

Did this work for you jetweed? which did you buy in the end. The arial socket on the back of the Connect Nav+ is not at all standard and I could not work out which type of connector the CDC plug was. That would be the handiest to plug in there using something like this but I don't know the plug standard for connect NAv+
