I've just bought my Stilo recently and i've noticed that when i play my mp3 cd's on my nav+ a lot of the songs seem to make an anoying crackling noise. At first i thought i'd made a bad quality cd but it happens with all of them and they don't do it at all in other cars or on the comuter. Does anybody know why it does this?? Does anybody know how to fix it??

The answer to this is simple - you have to adjust the gain on the MP3 files using a utility like mp3gain. When the gain is too high the D/A clips, and hence the noise.

The other advantage of running everything through mp3gain is you can normalise all the tracks, so the volumes are all similar. I was surprised how big a difference there was between different CDs.

How do you connect your ipod to the radio??? Don't know how to do it on my nav+

Using iTrip.

I dont know if the skywindow makes a difference but reception is much improved over my original (skywindow less) 3dr stilo

It ai'nt the radio that's crackling, it just does it with the mp3 cd's so i think reception hasn't got anything to do with it.
Thanks anyway

I ran the mp3gain utility and it worked like a charm. All my mp3 songs work perfectly in my car now, thanks alot. (y)

My question now is; why did it do it in the first place?? I know it's due to the gain but why doesn't it do it, for instance, in an opel corsa(i tried it in one and got no crackling)?? Is it something to do with the cd player or is it because the speakers are bad quality??

Thanks for all your advice

I'ts really down to the implementation of the MP3 hardware/software - it appears some manufacturers have put something in to deal with this in a graceful way. Nothing wrong with anything - just some MP3 players do it, some don't.

Glad it's sorted the problem anyway
