my sedici 1.9 went for its 4th mot today, emisions were so clean the test couldn't prove a trace! unfortunately, they found a broken of front coil, (apparently the first 3",never, ever come across one of those before)...and an engine management warning light, i argued the toss about that, as i'd blanked the egr valve off 2 years ago, which as we know will make this light come on...and pointed out that they couldn't find any fault with the emissions....so they put this in as advisory....but its officially a ''FAIL'' from 20/03/13....so be warned...

just been down the local fiat dealers, their ok to be honest, happy to give free advice..was looking at the new 500 maxi, the agent actually apologised when i told him what i had! (didn't buy it off him...) he said that as far as he knew the engine i have, the engine warning light was only emissions based, (well i dont know, i usually only deal with vespas) he said take the blanking plate out just for the mot, it should reset its self after a few miles...he did sell me a gasket for £2.45 tho, :bang:

Do you need to remove the DPF if you blank the EGR, which then means a relatively expensive remap, and probably a smokey car?

The changes to the MOT from 20th March did include a number of warning lamps but did NOT include the engine management light.

For full details of what the proper standards are and not what the tester thinks, are contained here;

This is the Special Notice sent to every test station telling them the new items in the test from 20th March and changes to otehr items alreay in the test.

This is the MOT manual they all work by.

If you can find the engine management light in either as a failure, I'll be very surprised.

All depends the reason its on though? Our had to plug it in and as was only lambda was a pass but said if it was certain other things it would have been a fail. Not sure how correct that was or not.

Totally incorrect. (n)
The use of any scan tool is not required by the MOT. The emissions are checked using the gas tester and visual check - no use of scan tools.

The engine MIL is NOT part of the test - Full stop.

THAT'S GREAT NEWS! to be fair to the tester, he did check online and he said that their was no mention of the lamp, but would verifiy it for when i came back for a re-test, (dont think i'll be going there again tbh) thanks guys for all your invaluable info, (y)
