I don't know if this has been posted before. I looked, but wasn't able to find anything. If it has, please excuse.
I just bought a Mk3 2005 punto (big rectangular headlights) -only 40k Km (more or less 25k miles...). Unfortunately, I have 2 issues. One major and the other an irritation.
The biggest problem regards the steering wheel and airbag. The steering wheel has perished along the top part and needs to be replaced. In addition, one of the side bolts holding the airbag in place has been broken off at the airbag itself and (IMHO) cannot be easily removed.
I cannot find, at any scrap yard here in Dublin, an identical replacement wheel and airbag, although there are tons of Mk2 and Mk1 Punto's.
My question - if I remove the Mk3 wheel and airbag and replace it with a complete Mk2 set, will the Mk2 wheel and airbag be electrically compatible? In other words - will there be a problem with the airbag going off, in the event of emergency? Haynes manual is silent on the issue, even though the pics refer to the Mk2 wheel and airbag system.... I know that the actual steering wheel fits, but no idea about the airbag itself. There is also a small issue with the electrical contacts for the hooter, but nothing that I cannot resolve.
The other option I have, is to use the Mk2 wheel with the existing airbag, but secured only with 2 bolts (instead of 3). I don't know if this would be a major issue.
The irritation regards the warning bulb in the cluster, telling me that there is a defective bulb somewhere. The warning comes on as soon as I turn on the switch to illuminate the parking lights. I have looked and dismantled and cleaned the contacts of every blasted bulb at least a dozen times, but warning stays on. Any idea on how to "pinpoint" the dastardly bulb? :bang: :bang:
Any help will be very welcome
