Styling Mk2b Headlight

I am looking at de chromeing my headlights and understand that the best way to separate the front from the rear is to use a dremil.

What i want to know is do i cut through the black plastic around the edge or cut the front lense edge?

everyone cuts into the black plastic as i will when i get round to having a go
its quite possible the lens would go white due to the cutting anyway as it certainly did when i last did an experimentation with a heat gun to see what these sappers were made of

I have ended up cuttin along the very edge of the clear plastic as the glue sticking the clear and clear goes very far in.
