Technical Mk2b Exhaust blowing - but not?

mate it sounds like what mine had, leaking at front between centre pipe and manifold.

Start it up, put your palm over the end of your exhaust and it should be so strong that the pressure blows your hand off the end after a few seconds.

If there is no pressure and you can here it hissing then your exhaust is blowing.

Antoher option if it is blowing is to get some shower gel and rub it over your seals on the exhaust (back box join, middle box join, manifold join) and then let it run for a few minutes. If it starts blowing bubbles then you have a leak somewhere.

So many ideas! I have no idea truly! I would try the hand over the exhaust but I am larry no mates and who is going to push the accelerator? Or do I just do it idling?

I'd love for it to be standard but it wasn't doing it last week so who knows.

thanks for the suggestions, best place to go from here is the morning, will try hand over.

Faz, you know I have a similar problem/noise from my car.... Well i took it to the garage and he said straight away that it was the baffles in the exhaust that had corroded. (this basically means that it sounds like **** but isnt really a problem, apart from the racket obviously!!)....
Dunno whether you have the same problem but just thought id share :p

Currently at the garage, they've not found any problems yet as they haven't phoned, am going to go see in about 15 minutes what is going on. It really doesn't sound like it's blowing, so hopefully they will find out or something.

baffles it could be, but these would have been done in feb with the rest of the system surely.

baffles are Built into the Exhuast Box's themselves

there like walls inside the Exhaust really

Mine has a Bar-ble again

last time it did that the Center pipe snapped leaving no back box
And 2nd time middlebox had got a Gaping hole in it!
3rd time - leaving it - i like a little barble :)

Ok after two drives by the mechanics, and a lot of revving (judging from the sub 30 's MPG (and when I left it it was on 42)), they found nothing. Guy said there was nothing wrong with the exhaust at all, and if there was something in the engine, I would have an error code and they could plug in to see what it was.

So I said fine and left it.

Listening to MrChris's now, his has a slight burble too, I think it might just be standard or something.

Ah well

that's the end of that!!

They tend to create a 'burble'/exhaust blow noise (and is normal).

New owners used to freak out all the time and we were forever having to show people its a design feature of the rear silencer and not a defective part. Just get under the car and have a look.

The burbling isn't the water- it's the 'built-in' exhaust blow created by having a hole in the rear box. They make the noise all the time.

Ya think?

Alright don't get too angry. If I agreed with everyone posting then we wouldn't get very far would we? Just because you posted three times doesn't make you right!

Anyway, it was worth a check.

pmsl really!!!!!!

I thought that was like a rage kinda face, like he's face palming but not because he has no hands, so he is just sweating it real bad cos some idiot made a mistake. But now I see.

I hope you understand though, if one person says "its definitely the baffles gone" and the other says "leave it, it's standard", I don't know who to listen to, so it's better to get it checked. And it didn't cost me a penny, tis a good garage that. Next time, I will listen to you ;)

:D
