Im looking to upgrade the speakers on my 2002 Punto MK2. I know next to nothing about car audio so all help is greatly apreciated :)

Ive looked, and I know the front speakers are 16.5cm. Ive probably got about £350ish to spend. Im not looking for a sub at the minute, but the possibility to upgrade further down the line would be nice. So ive picked this lot.

HU - http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/5765.html
Speakers - http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/5769.html
Amp - http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/5415.html
Wiring Kit - Look on ebay soon.

I like the amp as I can run the speakers on 2 channels, then bridge the other 2 for the sub later on. I know the amp RMS is rated more than the speakers but if i keep an eye on the volume, gain etc. will this be a problem? Does anyone know if the type-r speakers will be fit, i.e. depth. What do you reckon to everything in general?

If I did end up buying a sub, say an alpine type-r 12" would the overall system effect my battery? Ive heard that running a setup like this can mean a future upgrade to my alternator/battery? Is this correct?

Thanks for your time,

Nathan.

Thanks for the reply. Is there anything I can do to check it will fit? How about the tweeters, are they a standard size?

Thanks,

Nathan,

Thanks,

Nathan,

The precise size of the tweeters vary so I would say have a measure and see how much space you have available.

There are several really good components available for £100 - look at brands such as DLS and Rainbow as well as the more 'mainstream' brands such as Alpine and Pioneer.

If I had £100 for a new 4 channel amp I would be looking at a JBL 75.4.

Just an update. Took the speakers out today, had abit of a measure. The depth looks fine, about 63mm before itd cause any problems so theres a good gap there. I was shocked at how small the original speakers magnets are! No wonder they distort if you turn it up past quiet :) Anyway, I found the magnet size diameter is around 13.5 cm on the Alpines so I made a piece of card the same size. It seemed to go in fine, there is a chunk of metal just inside the door that could cause problems, got my dremel ready anyway (y) So it looks like im going to be ordering them soon, ill take some photos and do abit of a guide for fitting :)

Any body ever done this, any tips/advice?

Thanks,

Nathan
