Mk2 seat cover removal/seat fix

Hi , my name is Alan. I just bought a mk2 recently and my front seat were annoying the **** out of me.Paso seat sounded like it had a wind chime in it with something rattling in it and the drivers seat was sort of leaning to the left:mad:

I had a day off yesterday so i thought i`d sort them out and take a few pictures along the way for anyone having the same issue`s:D

Passo seat first.
1. remove seat cover
Image086.jpg

At the end of the back of the seat over there is 2 black strips of plastic hooked into each other.Unhook them.

Image078.jpg

This is a better view of the strips with the seat cover inside out.

Image077.jpg

The seat cover is fairlt tight and velcro`d at places but should lift up handy enough(y)

Image067.jpg

Theres a couple of hooks on the back of the seat cover

2. Remove head rest.

Image071.jpg

There is 2 plastic sleeves holding the headrest`s in place.Open the plastic tabs arrowed and circled in the above pic. There should be total of 4 tabs in each sleeve.

Image075.jpg

With the tabs released, prise the headrest from the plastic sleeves.

Image080.jpg

The plastic sleeves will remain in place.

Image073.jpg

This was the cause of my jingley seat. The part the hook goes into had broken and a couple of hooks were rattling of the seat frame.Tightened it all up with a pliers and wedged a couple of rags in to stop them coming out again:D

TO REMOVE DRIVER SEAT COVER
Its the same as above apart from the seat tilt and lumber knobs. These pull straight off

Image084.jpg

Image087.jpg

Now for the broken driver seat.
Take the 2 plastic side from the seat base
Image090.jpg

Dont forget this philips scew (i nearly did:bang:)

Image091.jpg

And the other plastic trim. There is also a screw at the back of each trim, facing the seats ,pointing at the floor.
There is also a plastic clip at the front of the trim nearest to teh door.by the sliding rail handle

Image092.jpg

This was the cause of my problem..The left hand side bolts had come loose and the seat dropped back.

Image094.jpg

Wedged the seat back into possition and tightened it all back up.

Reverse steps for refitting plastic trims.

As for the base of the seats, the cover is crimped into the metal base of the seat and cannot be removed:(

Hope this helps

Re: mk2 seat cover removal/seat fix

Well , as promised.I figured out how to remove the seat base cover:D

It was not as hard as i expected it to be.Took me 25 mins not knowing what i was doin lol .

I never took any pics of taking the seat out:eek: but its only 4 x 6mm allen key bolts and are fairly obvious to find.

So this is the seat out

Image104-1.jpg

To remove the frame ,remove the 4 T40 Torx screws circled in the pic..
There`s no need to remove the plastic trims on the side:D

Here`s another a pic with the frame removed.

Image107.jpg

The seat cover is simply crimped in place.

Image110.jpg

with something flat(a plastic trim remover tool or a plastic bicycle tyre remover would be pefect so not to tear the material,i just used a flat head screwdriver),prise between metal plate and fabric and it should bend open.
Do this the whole way around the seat.

Image109.jpg

There is a plastic rib attached to the seat cover.
With a pliers ,pull the plastic rib and seat cover away from the metal base.
Be care full not to snag the material on the metal base, there are sharp metal tags holding the rib of the cover in place. You can just about see one of them in the above pic ,inbetween the bolt hole and the pliers.

Image117-1.jpg

Heres the plastic rib around the edge of the seat cover

Image111-1.jpg

After you have un done the cover, turn it inside out to reveal 9 metal hoops attaching the cover to the sponge.
Tthere is 4 each side and 1 in the middle. They are placed in the crease of the sponge.

Image115-2.jpg

Here they are with the cover removed.

After you have washed/repaired them just connect the 9 metal loops.
Make sure all your sponge in in place propperly(you dont wanna be taking them back off to do it again)
Place cover all the way over the seat and use a flat head screwdriver to push the plastic rib back down into the metal base

you can see come of the metal tags i was on about earlier circled in the second pic below
Image118-1.jpg

Image119-1.jpg

Once the seat cover is back on use a mallet or hammer to close the lip on the metal base.

And thats it(y)

I hope i made sense lol

Re: mk2 seat cover removal/seat fix

I am looking for car seat covers for a mk2 fiat punto sport 16v year 2000. I seem to be struggling as my front seats are bucket seats and not normal and flat. Anyone know where I can get some seat covers from that will fit :-/
