Technical MK2 rebuild advise request

Hi,

I've had my old MK2 Punto Active sitting on the drive for a few months gathering dust. I have no mechanical background, however, I want to learn at least the basics on how a car is put together, what is what and what does what etc.

I was thinking of completely dismantling my punto's engine bay and then putting it back together, changing and fixing old/ worn out parts while I go along. But as a novice, I have no idea where to start, is there some kind of book/ guide any one could recommend for such jobs? Any other hints and tips for gaining knowledge would also be appreciated.

dont see the point in takin apart a normally working car, if you want to learn get a tottaled one or one with fail mot, if you got space that is
