Technical mk2 punto wiper linkage upgrade.

I know this is an old thread, but still relevant to many users.

A cheap fix is to use two cable ties around the weak joint. Fit them so they cross over each other. Difficult to describe but easy to do. And this needn't be seen as a temporary job. I've fixed a similar joint on a Peugeot gear linkage (at the base of the lever) and it's lasted at least a couple of years.

Three cheers for cable ties, one of the best inventions of the last 50 years. If in doubt, think cable tie. :)

my wifes punto has the same problem but the drivers side has come off and i can only get one rod on the other will not go over the ball has any one come across this .

just registered and what a great forum as i have doblo van as well (y)

After you've taken off the wiper arms do you have to take of the plastic bit that provides a seal from windscreen to bonnet?

Cheers
Gordon

This new kit is so easy to fit any one can do it
get a long flat screw driver put it near end of old linkage near black rubber rings, tap end of screw driver with palm of hand and it will knock the old linkage off.

start with fitting new ones to passenger side wiper, simply use wire or rope around it to pull it onto ball, then put other end on to ball on motor with a set of grips, then put the drivers side one onto the motor.
then turn wiper on with ignition off, then turn ignition on for a nanno second so passenger wiper stops in the middle of screen.
you can now move the drivers wiper by hand so you have access to the ball on bottom.
now use the rope again to pull the last bit on to the ball and the job is don

Re: mk2 punto wiper linkage upgrade. from £30.20

Does anybody know if the Wipex linkages can be picked up off-the-shelf? My girlfriend's Punto mk2 wiper has decided to completely let go, and ideally I could do with getting the Wipex kit tomorrow rather than waiting for delivery.

Cheers,

Mike

Re: mk2 punto wiper linkage upgrade. from £30.20

Cheers Captain Mike. I had a bit of a dumb moment last night and forgot that I had insured her on my car, so she's taken that today. That's a gut-wrenching feeling watching someone else drive off in your car.

I've ordered the Wipex linkages and they should be on their way. It is amazing that there seems to be only one company making replacements for an obviously flawed part (ignoring the company that makes the full adjustable kit of course).

This happened this sisters mk2 2004 sport, and I replaced the wiper arms with the wipex kit about a year ago.

however, about 2 weeks ago the arm popped off on passenger side.

by inspection, it looks like the wipex kit has worn out too...as though i was able to pop it back on there was very little tension.

Im wondering should i spend another 30quid on a wipe kit, or is there a reliable and tested method to repair this issuer, without the poss of having to spend 30quid a year on linkages?

Re: mk2 punto wiper linkage upgrade. from £30.20

This is a tip to anyone who has had a bushing wear out to the point it pops apart, but need to use the car before they take delivery of one of these upgrade kits. First of all, this only works if you only have one bushing so badly worn. the trick is to swap that to the first position on the drive arm. That way, you can use the better bushing on the other linkage in the second position, preventing the first from dropping off. It won't last long since the bushing faces will wear if it does drop, but it should buy you enough time for the Wipex kit to turn up. Plus, it's good practice for fitting the Wipex kit too.

I think I shall be giving my ball joints a thorough clean before fitting, and use plastic-safe Nyogel 770Z lubricant to prevent wear.

Good avice there !! Aimed at Dave ref wipex, have they done this good will gesture for yourself or others on the forum. Only issue is, I'll be damned if I could find a reciept as to proof of purchase, and when exactly it was purchased. But I know it was when you couldnt buy them online or on ebay...telephone orders only

Might give them a bell

i just email and said a bit of mine had broke and asked if i could buy just the broken bit, and they said no worry they will just send it FOC

I fitted one of these kits in the summer, and also cleaned out the contacts in the motor at the same time.
The wipers now work really solidly and no judder or slopping around. The kit was worth the money for me anyway.
