Technical Mk2 punto occasionally wont start

I have a 00 8v mk2 punto and occasionally wont start.

When its turning over both the engine and key lights both stay on.
Try a few times more,both lights go out and car starts first time.
Have 2 original keys and same problem using either key.
Any ideas to why it not starting?

Chances are you've got a poor connection or a bad earth somewhere. Finding where will be the work!

I was thinking maybe crank shaft sensor but its also like its not reading the code from the key

*COULD* be the fuel cut off switch thats faulty. Not sure where it is but I had the same problem but my old mk2 used to also cut out whilst driving.

its driving fine just when it gets warm it wont start and both code and engine light stay on while turning over,try a few times and the lights go out and starts perfect

Battery in key fob if it has one?
