Technical Mk1 75 ELX low power

Hi, i'm hoping that someone may be able to help me find out what is wrong, I've had my car for sometime now and untill recently i've had very few problems.
It started to missfire on acceleration a few weeks ago, so far i have changed the spark plugs and the leads but they haven't made any difference.
The missfire only happenes upto about 2000rpm then everything was fine, the car would suddenly spring into life and your off but recently the car has become less and less powerfull.

Acceleration is becoming very sluggish and the engine is sounding a bit on the gruff side.
I have tried some redex injector cleaner which seems to be reducing the missfire but it doesn't seem to be doing much for the overall power.

If anyone has any ideas i would be very gratefull as i'm stumped.

sorry but that sounds like headgasket failure.

Do a compression test, if you have AA cover (£30) they can get their hands dirty for you.
