Punto mk2

Hello all.

As the owner of a bravo 1.2 I know that fiat reliability is not quite as bad as some people make it out to be.

The point of this post....

My sister wants to buy a Fiat Punto 1.2i 8valve (I think)..

Is there anything serious to watch out for?...
Generally, how reliable are they?
Whats the general concensus on this car?

Any and all help/advice would be appreciated as I don't want my little sis to end up with a duff car on my say so.

Re: Punto mk2

Welcome to the forum

I had one for just under 2 years- I bought it off my mum. Best thing about the car imo is the looks, then value for money because its quite cheap compared to other rivals.

Problems I had, apart from usual rattles/squeaks:
- ECU gave up, causing a misfire. There is a recall for 02 reg Puntos I think, if the cars this age its worth checking to see if the car has been recalled to get the work done (ECU re-program ;) )

- I went through about 4 clutches, not my driving, a common fault.

Other than that it was a great first car for me (y)

Re: Punto mk2

The Jap stuff is indeed more reliable, but servicing and parts are much more expensive that for the Punto. Same goes for insurance. Plus (well, in my opinion anyway) the Starlet/Yaris/Micra etc have incredibly dull styling! :D

I have one and am fairly surprise to stand here and tell you that it can take quite a beating and still come back for more.

Till now no problems at all, not even with all the mods it is going through.
