I think I may have a missing pipe on my engine...

At the front of the air filter it looks like something should join up with something else from the front of the engine.
Any idea what the pipe is called? or what it does? and should I be worried because there isn't one?

I have a 1998 1.2 8v

it should be a flexi foil tube it goes to the exhaust manifold, it heats air going into the engine on cold days, you should be ok without it, until winter anyway.

...and if it's absence annoys you, you can buy the stuff from Halfords - Flexible Foil Ducting I'd imagine it's called.

Here come da judge...

That pipe is useless. It's supposed to duct warm air from the manifold to the filter box, but I had to get rid of mine when I fitted my induction kit. Starts fine, no matter how cold it is, so I wouldn't worry about it being missing.
