Technical Me and my radiator problems....

Anyhoo - I was thinking. I would try the heater matrix replacement myself, as i dont mind getting my hands dirty - but I need help.

1) How do I take the Dashboard off?

2) Is it majorly technical to take the old one out and the new one in? (I have the time - im a bloody student)
i.e - are there a lot of confusing wires? (must ask - im blonde) Or is it simply fiddly to put in? Does anyone know if i can find diagrams anywhere to help me?

3) Do I need any particular tools? I have a toolbag of stuff - but is there anything I need that I probably dont have?

Dear friend,
I had a matrix leaking few days ago. Put thread on this forum, try to find it. To replace it is time consumng, and requires haynes manual.
I put some bars leak, or whatever is called into the coolant bottle, and it stopped leaking.
For how long I dont know

Yes, I can recommend the 'bars leaks' treatment,put some in my dad's metro about 3 years ago when heater started leaking and it's still not started dripping again...yet

ita a pain in the bum job you will need alan/hex sockets and normal sockets, once dash is out you need to remove heater box some nuts are inside behind dash 2 are under bonnet hiden behind plastik circle things that hold soundproffing stuff on, pics below if engine side of box shows bolts and other pic shows where they are under bonnet, soundproffing removed for pics only you dont remove yours.

oh man i could have done with those pics few months ago when i tried to change mine could i hell find those bolts hidden under the plastic covers had the dash off aswell and had to put it all back together again..................anyway barsleak did the trick

Looks like Ill be getting that barrs leak stuff then! Im going to need heat in the car, getting really cold out!

I think Ill just get anyone who was gonna buy me a xmas prezzie to donate money to a 'fix my bloody punto' fund. I will buy the bits then (and a manual) and spend my xmas holidays in the garage doing it myself. Really wanted to get a CD player in there over xmas, but thats gonna have to wait I think!
