Technical marea td electrical problem

I have a problem with my 1997 td 100 wipers. When I switch the headlights on, the wipers also come on even if the switch is in the off position. They work normally with the wiper switch. Please help as it is driving me mad!!!!

Sounds like an earth fault. Check all the earth connections and for signs of corrosion.
Check to see if the headlights come on with with any wiper settings as it could also be a short in a loom.

I'm not sure where the earths are for the headlights. Could it be a relay problem? If so, where are the associated relays. Also, I understand that there is a history of problems with the column switches, could this be the problem?

Don't think its relays or stalks 'cos wipers wired straight through and different stalks for each function.
Willing to be proved wrong tho'.
There are two earths in the front for wipers and lights, one on left and one on right, not sure exactly where unfortunately as never had cause to look.
