I was parking up last week when, with the clutch pedal to the floor there was a loud clunk and the pedal went light. The clutch appears to be working ok except for the pedal dropping a few inches overnight, I then can't get enough travel and the clutch drags. By getting my foot under the pedal and pulling it back to where it should be it seems to re-adjust itself and works fine. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a spring on either the pedal or somewhere in the mechanism that returns the pedal (other than the clutch springs)? Cheers...

wretched ratchet

Some Fiats have cable operated clutches and others have hydraulic. If you have cable type then it sounds like the self adjuster has gone which just means a new cable. Pretty easy to fit normally.

If it's hydraulic then it would be VERY WEIRD to have your symptoms.

155 MAREAS HAVE HYDRAULIC CLUTCHES, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE RETURN SPRING THAT FITTED TO THE PEDAL TO PULL THE PEDAL BACK UP,NEVER DONE ONE OR HAVE ANY REAL IDEA WHERE IT WOULD BE LOCATED ON MAREA. GOOD LUCK

Re:Marea clutch

Hi,
I have had a 155 estate and a TD125 saloon - both have had the same problem.

There is a spring under the dash which pulls the pedal up - it's easy to get at, but the spring is quite strong and is very fiddly to get right. Spring costs about 80p

Thanks for Info

Just a quick note to say thanks for the info. I'll be having a look at the spring as soon as the weather warms up a bit (Its grim up North) and I'm feeling a bit more agile!
