Wasn't even looking for one but there was 7 within my search for panda cross parts

One is accident damage, I guess the others are end of life and are uneconomical to repair

Even the newest will be 15+ yrs old now.

That's end of life for most cars.

Sometimes it's best just to throw in the towel and start over.

Had it not been for the vast increases in prices for new and nearly new cars, I'd expect many of these would have been scrapped several years ago.

Our Panda is of similar age, and we've recently managed to eke another MOT out of it without spending anything, but to buy the parts to fix everything that really needs doing now would cost well more than the value of the car, and even then, it'd still be an old car, with old car issues.

But I know motoring will never be as cheap again as Panda ownership has been, not by a long way.

In the current economic climate, I do feel sorry for folks with few skills and less money trying to buy and run a car on a tight budget.

I bought mine back after a suicidal deer destroyed the front bumper etc. I got a good few more miles from it, but really should have let it go. That said, many parts have found their way into the Multijet.

I totally agree. But if you can do your own repairs which not everybody can and I understand that, you can keep them on the road. I do all my own servicing etc so the labour charge (which is the killer nowadays) doesn't come in to it.
But all good points above.

I suspect there getting beyond economical repair because where they normally rot is covered by a plastic trim, by the time it's noticed for an MOT. It will be just under a grand a side to rebuild the rear pillar jacking point inner and outer sills

Absolutely right.
I scrapped one last year that looked pretty good, and passed the usual MOT sill squeeze test on one side, but failed on the other. When I took the sill covers off both sides were toast. The side that would have passed the MOT was slightly better, but still had 5 or 6 inches of rust hole on the outer, and both sides were pretty bad once the outer was cut off.
To do it properly would have cost double the value of the car, and it still would have needed dampers all round and caliper rebuilds on the front.
Owner was shocked when shown the state of it, as no other rust visible on car. Sadly Paintwork was a bit rough, 120k miles and interior was "lived-in", so not financially viable.
I did get some more parts for my own 100hp spares pile out of it, so some of it will live on.

It's a shame things are getting beyond economical repair. My Fifi if i couldn't do the work would of gone to the Scrapyard in the sky. Where shes bad she's bad! Where shes good shes mint. Even the Bloke that Mot'ed her said i wasn't expecting that. I cant wait till he Mot's her again. Totally different beast! :)

The only problem i may have is on the inner Osf wing. There is a hole but looking at pictures etc.. This seems to be a drain hole where the engine mount bit is welded to the wing!? But to get at it it's engine out! Hmm can i be bothered to put back the 100hp!? Anyone want a 100hp setup! 106000 on the clock.

Mines doing ok fortunately. I did have a bit of sill rot on the NSR but nowhere near the jacking point. I have a friend that has a bodywork business that sorted it out for me. The rest of the car is fine; I guess I'm one of the lucky ones .
