When I accelerate and put the pedal all the way down, where it would normaly accelerate I get like a loss in power then its ok again. Only happens sometimes. Also been making some strange noices when accelerating, sounds kinda like a rally car noise. anyone any ideas? im completely pants when it comes to the actual workings of cars

Do fiat still use vacuum advance hoses on their cars anymore?

first thing i would try is a bottle of injector cleaner its onlt £5,
sounds kinda like a rally car noise could be leaky exhaust or loose air filter or throttle body,

you haven't got one of those eco-tek things have you? could be a vacuum leak from a fault hose or one of these eco-crap devices...
a faulty spark plug can do what you say also, when did you change them last?

My mum's 55s has the same problem!
When accelerating normally, the car usually seems to 'stop' accelerating for about one or two seconds, and the goes again. Also, the engine misfires slightly at idle, and the exhaust 'pops'. Don't know what the problem is, though.

Plugs or lead that would be my opinion
. It may also be a loose tps sensor or map sensor fault though.

Eco-crap things lol...i've got one and i'll have you know it looks lovely....dont think it actually does anything though =S....luckily i was given it free, probably from someone else who realised it did nothing....makes a nice very faint buzzy noise if u floor it and lift off.. Thats about it.
