I recently changed the engine on my granddaughter's 2014 500L, 1.4 and automatic.
When I got it running it was stuck in limp in mode and would not rev past 3000 rpm.
I read up on it and found out that it might be the computer thinking the throttle body is new but it was removed from the oringinal engine and installed on this one. I kept fussing with it and the that problem went away.
NOW if the engine is reved to about 5500 rpm it acts like the rpm limiter is cutting out a cylinder and it goes into the limp in mode and shows a check engine light. Turning the engine off and back on lets it run properly until high rpms again. It does not set a code that is retrievable with my code reader.

Is this a softwear issue that will require a dealer to fix?
