General Light at the end of the tunnel

Good news about the straps, I can just bin them by the sound of it. I'm hoping to find a similiarly lenient MOT tester for my car. Preferably one who a bit blind, a bit deaf and who will test something else by mistake.

Am I gonna get to meet the mighty Grumbleweed or Scruffbag?
the way I'm going at them at the moment it'll be the wife's Octavia:(
I'm off the week before so depends how that week shapes up, aiming to have Grumbleweed apart and back together with a bit of luck but I do now have a LOT of parts sitting in the garage waiting to go on.
Looking at the tank I can't say I was mad keen to run it without straps, only seems to attach by 3 bolts through plastic and a full tank is heavy. Try the seatbelt trick, from the sounds of that fail sheet you'll have a spare you've taken off, wrap round a metal strip, drill through and attach with the standard bolts. Simples and seatbelt is strong stuff and doesn't rust!!!

This is the fail sheet from 2005. Needless to say I won't be showing my father whos currently storing the car this till I have a pass certificate to go with it.

That is a fair old list. Hope the five years haven't added too much to it.

No straps on my tank but as Andrew says it is a bit on the heavy side so I might need to get some strapage at some point.

Cheers

Dave

Well plenty of progress but I just couldnt manage all that list in the time.
Twas always going to be a tall order and repairs only increased in complexity when they start to spread to the boot floor and tailgate.

And then I didn't spot the number plate gaffe on Halfords part until it was on the car

Still it was fun and I didn't set fire to my hair once :)

Some good work there chap (y)

You've still got 6 days until St Andrews :D

Cheers

Kind words gentlemen :) I fear events are going to conspire against me even visiting st andrews let alone bringing a car. You done your magazine shoot yet Dave?

No shoot yet. The snapper has been a bit snowed under recently. Should hopefully get a date in the next couple of weeks. Will post some more pics then.

Shame you are struggling to get to St Andrews on Sunday. Would have been good to have a couple of Y10s there.

Cheers

This isn't retro cars mag is it?

The problem with working on mine is it kept in the scottish borders and I live in Dundee. I know this seems a crazy arrangement but there is method in my madness. Also Iv'e found the need to make my own repair panels to be an extremely time consuming part of the repair process.

I understand fully now why certain cars get restored so much because if you can buy repair panels so much of the works already done for you.

great to see you and the car at St Andrews today, made the trip for me(y) as good as I hoped in the metal.
Andrew.

Cheers Andrew. Always good to put a name to a face :D

Nice that we both had one of a kind cars there today. Who would have thought that only one panda would be in attendance.

Hope you had a good trip home.

Cheers

Hi Dave, just wanted to add my conratulations for completing such a brilliant job. I've had a number of Y10s over the years, and they are a special car, especially as they are so rare now. Sadly I have just had to sell my Y10 GTIe, but as usually seems to be the case, it has been bought by another Lancia enthusiast.

I'm missing it already, but hopefully I will be able to find another one in a few years when I have the space to keep a project car somewhere - Having seen how yours has turned out has inspired me to do the same! :)

Cheers turbo_jim. I have just come back from holiday in Portugal and Y10's are even getting rare over there!!

It has certainly been worth all the hard work to get it to this stage and it is getting plenty of use as our second car.

Still waiting on the photo shoot date. Chased the photographer again today.

Cheers

Dave

Amazing day today :D

Had a five hour photo shoot for Retro Car magazine. Something else seeing a real pro at work.

Not sure what month it will be in but will let you all know.

Below are some of the shots I took on my camera but these are not a patch on the proper ones.

Took a few hours to get rid of the grass and mud from the other week in St Andrews but worth the effort
