General Leather steering wheel destroyed!

My point is I was never told by anyone it needed looking after, If I was a normal person with no idea on car care, how would you know? If I was told it was delicate, (my dad owned a 20 year old Porsche 911 and that never had any trouble with its leather.....) I would have treated it. Mines off to the dealers for a service tomorrow night, so will see if they can help :)

Carl might sell you his old wheel.

indeed i might for the right price.

whilst i agree with you there adam its no different o any other part of the car really so you do kind of hae to at least half expect it will need some sort of care.

carl shhhhhh you really dont know owt about cars :p

Its bad material batch tbh. Im not having any problems with mine after 15k and i dont take any special care of mine. Anyway, if it goes then ive just got the excuse i need to get it wrapped in alcantara :p

Yes looks defective, under normal conditions certainly shouldn't look like that before 3 years.

Do you have sweaty hands? :p.
:yeahthat:.my steering wheel has been saved by nivea for hands. i took a tailors advice to protect leather with nivea. that is what i do and works wonders.

and the women from FIAT UK after saying it was normal wear blamed me for wearing hand cream and that cause it ......lol

Needless to say I dont drive the GP as I cant drive....... she didnt seem to have a come back to when I said adam doesnt wear hand cream but still insisted that was the cause

So she was wrong on both accounts :p

My Elegenza has the smooth leather, built in 2006 it still looks fine. My old Focus wheel went all nasty, but I reckon that was because my step dad owned the car before me, and in the morning he put his after shave onto his hands then onto his neck, then went to work in the car! though saying that brothers KA leather wheel was a right state.

I reckon a number of factors influence it as mentioned

Sweaty Hands (sometimes you dont notice but if you get a adrenalin rush when driving such as road rage, fun driving your hands do get sweaty)
After shaves
Not cleaning or conditioning the wheel. Would recomend just using a leather conditioner.
How hard the wheel is gripped possibly?

etc etc. I think as each driver is unique its hit or miss how it happens and is not something that is a fault of Fiat, though it is a irritation.

i didn't apply the nivea onto my hands, but on the steering wheel. it is shiny and soft. worked for me. anyway it might just be mine
