Learning to drive

Learning to drive

January 1970, Halifax, deep snow. Ex police driving instructor took me out in his ageing zephyr.
After a few lessons he took me to the supermarket car park for some lessons in skid control (proper skid control on proper ice/snow).
put in for my test in March, test date came back for late November:eek: (n)

Had one lesson per month, took the test & failed on reversing around a corner (into a single track lane, I was 18" off the kerb my side and about the same his), my instructor questioned this (nearly came to blows with the examiner & accused him of being petty)
Put in for re-test straight away & date came back for January. Almost a year to the day and about 20 lessons later, I passed my test. Went straight on to book & take my advanced test.
Later on I took HGV, PSV/PCV & can drive anything on the road (and some things off!)

(happy days, driving an articulated lorry down the M62 & breaking down because the diesel waxes then lighting a small fire under the tank to get me back on the road)
