Technical £55 for a battery

WTF is halfords playing at, they wanted £55 for a battery - is this the price they normally are?

no other places where open today - so i have nicked my mums for tonight

its been dodgy for 2 years but i have always put off from buying one, but its finally given up - i got stuck in work this morning

£55 is ridiculous! Even Motor World flog them for about 20 notes, a motor factor should charge around that for something half-decent.

you can get them for about £20, like JB said. I paid £55 for mine from Halfords but I got one of the Bosch Calcium ones. I'd strongly reccommend them if you can afford one. Both my Cinqs have them in and they start first time, every time

i just seen a price on the net for £35 - thank fook for that, i have a figure i can go to partco with tomorrow

Yeah, they asked for £55 for a standard Halfords one or £54.95(I think it was for a Bosch one). It comes with a 4yr warrenty too

ring around diffrent motor factors i got a big heavy duty one for the merc for £23, same place charged my a £ more for a cinq one because it had to have a lot of power cramed into a small battery for electric windows an stuff,

Are the calcium ones worth the extra expennse then? The one in the Capri is calcium, it was pretty crap when I first got the car but an overnight charge sorted it out and its been fine ever since unfortunately this didn't work on the Punto battery!

The best batteries by far, even their standard battery has show to out perform so called heavy duty & premium priced calcium batteries from other manufacturers. I have one in my intergrale which until recently (when the Cinq got ill) wasn't used that often and it always started first time every time and thats a big engine to turn with a battery thats the same size as the Cinq!

Read any magazine review on batteries from the likes of Auto Express, Car Mechanics etc they always win. plus they have a cool little window that changes colour to indicate battery health!

PS they're also not that expensive as you normally have to go to a motor factors for them.

I got mine from Fiat for around £50, and I'm really pleased with it. It even has an LED to indicate when it's faulty, or low on charge

I think you may find thats a re-packaged Delphi battery as they are standard fit to many cars as I think the indicator is only on their batteries!

The one in the Capri is a Delphi, its taken some abuse as it wasn't too healthy to start with and then I completely drained it by leaving the interior light on and it still recharged and worked again. Are the Delphi ones expensive then? If I can afford it I'll buy one for the Punto rather than just going for a cheapy.

the cinq, sei and punto use the same battery... i got the calcium one that is indicated for the punto. halfrauds dont have a listed calcium one for the cinq and they were out of standard ones for the 3

There's a specific battery for the Punto? I was just gonna buy one that looks around the same size and has the same or better amp and amp-hour rating.

well not sure for all puntos but i know the 55 and 60 use the same batts as the cinq/sei

No Delphi batteries are almost always cheaper than other "big brand" batteries as its usually motor factors or garages that supply them.

I think from memory was about £35 with a 4 year guarantee.

The Delphi site had a link to find a local supplier, but don't just take it from me how good they are, see a battery test here, where they comprehensively beat all the opposition including batteries almost double in price.

my sister has a 55 ang halford wanted £55 for there own brand i went to local motor factor and got a bosch silver 4 year garantee onw for £28.50 any more than £30 and you over paying in my opinion.

my mk2 punto cost a lil more due to ths stupd battery shape it isnt standard. they are higher than they are wide.

Hmmm... after reading that review I'm gonna go for a Delphi, just got to find somewhere that sell 'em near me. Not sure what Allan Kay stock, they're reputedly very cheap for batteries but I've no idea what brands they do. Cheers for that link Aaron
