Actually, regarding the begging letters, it'd feel great to be able to do some good - so perhaps use the interest to fund good causes, maybe employ investigators to suss out the genuine cases and perhaps take out full page ads in local papers naming and shaming the chancers.
And some of those begging letters can be so inventive, Apple, you need to be careful because if you send them any money, they'll only keep sending you letters. Might be best to post the letter back and tell them you're not falling for their scam

there was a guy on bthe radio the other day(i missed his qualifications but I guess it was financial of some kind) and he was saying the way to deal with it is to set up a charitable organisation.
then deal with requests via that

People that ask for it are just thinking about getting the money, those that don't then I'd have to choose who would be the most appropriate/needy causes etc.

But you wouldn't just shove £161m into a bank account, plenty of tax-efficient schemes open.
