I know it has been on here before and I have read the threads but it still isnt very clear.

I have a red key and a blue key which one should I use (disposable) and which can i not afford to loose?

Blue key is least expensive,, red key is code key or something like that, will cost bout 500 quid to replace!! Think blue one still costs bout 50 odd quid to replace though so i would try not to loose either if i were u!!

Keep the red key safe costs more like £1000 to replace, new ecu and lockset required

Quite possible, if you had to take the battery off or unplug the ECU for some reason i think you need the red key to start it back up again, not sure as i own a Sei.
So if you have no red key then you can't start it and have to change all the gubbins.

To the best of my knowledge (as learnt on this forum too)

The red key is the 'master' key for the fiat code & immobiliser system, in the event of reprogramming new blue keys for the system or even a fiat diagnostic on the electronic system requires the red key.
I've only had a Cinq a short while but its the red key you need to keep safe as the master 'chip' holding all the data for other devices is stored inside it.
Havent needed mine yet but its kept stored away safe in case I do at some point.
Dunno the price but apparently very costly to lose.
Hope this helps m8.

Thanks for the help I will never leave the house with my red key.....in fact Iam going to padlock it my toilet if it costs 800 quid plus to replace lol.

I cant even afford to loose the blue one at 50 quid.

How much does it cost to get a new blue one made?

Being a moron that I am... I bought my cinqo without the red key as I wasnt aware about a master key.
I havent had the need to get a replacement red key - do I have to?
I know its costly but arent these red keys 'transferable' at all?
Presumably u go to a FIAT dealership to have the red key cut?
cheers

You won't need the red key unless the ecu goes down. Most people never need it, but if you do then start crying. Fiat have to order one from Italy, it takes several weeks to come through and they charge you a small fortune for the privilege. I never understood the thinking behind this red key lark. [?]

if you did loose the red key and needed everything reprograming would it be easeier and cheeper to replace it with a standered lock if that is possable.
