Technical key code light!

Currently reading:
Technical key code light!

Charlie does it occasionally and I use the blue key.

Does it go out at all, before you start the engine? Ie, on the first turn of
the key in the ignition? Charlie's usually goes out, then I turn the key to 2nd
position to start the engine. It's happened a couple of times if I've been a
bit too eager and started the engine before the code light has gone out.

my code light has decided to stay on my sei, but i have just had a new ecu fitted to it cause i blew the old one up with my air horns

when i had the new one fitted, i had the immobiliser bypassed, and it constantly flashed, so i am stumped as to why it is styaing on now

you easiest option would to take it somewhere that has diagnostic facilities, so the fault codes can be read

it stays on all the time ive had my car chipped but it has been fine till now! i went to fiat lol wish i hadnt and said my car isnt safe to drive and should leave it there and that it would cost me 200 quid to fix! i just said its a cinquecento i no its not safe to drive and walke out! they dont no anything!!!!!!!!!!!

im not sure why it isnt safe, its not likely to blow up but could just stop working

have you got any italian/fiat specialists in your area that actually care about what they doing

did they tell you what was wrong with it

no only fiat round here but my mates uncle owns a garage so he is gona have a look at it and they just said it isnt safe and to leave it there for testing! so how they come up with that it would cost 200 quid to fix?? lol

If you have replaced the chip its entirely possible that its the chip. With my chip the light remains on as the immobiliser circuit is disabled. You can easily check if the circuit has been disabled by disconnecting the key code reader box which is behind and slightly above the fusebox. It has two connectors one which is for the sensor and one that goes into the loom. Disconnect the one that goes into the loom and try the car. If it starts its most likely that the circuit has been disabled if it doesn't you could have another problem either with the immobiliser box or the ECU.

Let me know if I can be of any further help (I know a bit about how the ECU/immobiliser system works)

Yes, by disabled I mean not working i.e. you have no immobiliser. By disconnecting the control box you will be able to tell. If the car still starts the immobiliser is disabled. also if the box is disconnected the light will not go on.

I have a version of my chip that will keep the immobiliser but I've only cracked it for a particular version of the fiat chip (from 97 build cars). Still working on the others.

Michael
