Ok guys, just come back from the car audio shop (mobile world) and been given the spec the guy thinks would be good. thing is, it's f*cking expensive, so just wanted to make sure its all good before i work overtime to pay for it. :D

Pioneer gmx962 (1 x 750w RMS) Amp
Pioneer 12" 1000W (450 RMS) Ported Sub
+ wiring kit etc etc £240

Pioneer gmx562 (2 x 100w RMS) Amp £95
Infinity Kappa Component (75w RMS) £120

Total: £455

Which is within budget, but fitting is an extra £120 (which is out of budget) so i was thinking of trying to barter to £550...

OR... is it hard to fit it all myself (where would the wiring run, do i need to take out the side panels?) i would prefer for it pro, but then we do have the budget issue....

Cool, so, what do y'all think?

I will research and get back to you, but that sounds expensive to me.
If your going to run 2 amps you'll need distribution blocks for the power and the earth.
Have they priced for these too as it doesn't seem like it?

Cheers, probably gonna upgrade the second amp tho to a GMX564 (100w RMS x 4) which is £160, if i'm gonna do it, i may as well do it rite :D so £520 + fitting...

Man, this car's gonna be banging!

Fitting really ain't a big deal, just need the time, tools and patience!! If in doubt about the electrics get an auto electrician to run your power cables/speaker cables through and build the rest of the set up yourself! Would imagine it'd be cheaper than £120!

Right, firstly the Pioneer GMX962 isn't 750RMS, it's 750w Peak power, so it'll be about 375wRMS (roughly...)
As for the sub is it the TSW-1201C or the 1201DVC?
Go for the DVC if you can, it's only £5.or £10. more.
Does the £240. include a sub box?(it'll add another £40. if not)
Make sure the wiring kit they give you is 4-gauge in thickness!!
These guys are really dodgy when it comes to their wiring so be careful! Insist you want a 4-gague wiring kit if they don't give you it.
If they can sort all that for £240 then I think it's a good price.

But, look at their advert in Max!!
Look at the true American sub/amp deal.
It includes a JL sub and kicker amp, i'd rather go for this than the Pioneer stuff!
Your choice.

As for the Pioneer GMX564 £160. it's a good price.
But not the components.
Go to www.mcs-direct.co.uk and order these:
Infinity-50.1CS
150w, 5 1/4" components, 2000 model now discontinued , should be £179 now only £79, 6M WARRANTY
Much better than paying £120.

While your on the phone to MCS ask them if they have any Kicker Kix404 amps left. They had some for £120. it's proberbly better than the Pioneer and if you go for the other Kicker amp option above, they'd look good together.

Sorry if thats a bit confusing, ask again if you want more detail

Have to say through personal experience MCS are a good place to buy from, they have a really good technical line as well if you've got any questions. Have heard mixed reports about Mobile world, good to buy a H/U etc cheap, but they don't seem to have the expertise of MCS, ring a few up cos they all want your custom. You might save a bit through price matching.

good luck wiv the System!!:)

Yeah, i bought my original speakers from them as well as my old head unit. Thing about MW is tho its just down the road and they have all the fitting bays and stuff.... oh why oh why is this all so hard ;) i thought i was all sorted! grrrrrrrrr!

Fitting bays???!!!??? They fit all their stuff outside the back door in the carpark!!!
Buy all the gear from MW, then get an auto-electrician to fit the wiring, they'll proberbly be cheaper than Mobile World.
Give a few companys a call from your local yellow pages, tell them what you want doing and see what they say.

Well thats what i meant :D Good idea, i suppose i could do that. the hardest bit is picking which bits, so much advice, so many paths... At the mo, i've kinda sussed that that sub and all for £240 is good.

The compo's from mcs, so i guess the amp as well (i keep all one brand for amps?) so then i got everything... maybe i 'll do some ringning first see what they quote.

Ok, looking more at MCS -

Rockford RFP3212 He2 Sub
250M Amp
Box + Kit £229

That better than the Pio? Cause they got the 4 channel amp for £160 so could order it all from there... or is that pioneer sub/amp deal better?

My personal choice would be the Rockford, it's better kit than the Pioneer and that RFP-3212 is a beast:) and thats the same amp that I have.
That's the sub and amp combination that Rockford themselves recommend!!

No, but close.

You need a 4-gague wiring kit!!!
Don't let them fob you off on this!!!

You run 4-gague power wire from your battery to the distribution block.
Then from the distribution block you run 2 lots of 8-gague power wire, one to each of the amps.
You'll need a 5 metre 4-gague wiring kit and then about 2metres of 8-gauge power and earth wire.
You then need an earthing distribution block (£15.).
You then run the 8-gague earth wire from the amps (again you'll need about 2metres of this) to this block and then a 4-gague earth wire from here to an earthing point.

So your list should read:
Rockford sub/amp Deal (doesn't this come with a wiring kit?, see if you can get them to give you a 4-gague wiring kit, then you'll not need the one listed below)
Pioneer Amp
Infinity Components
4-Gague Wiring Kit
Power distribution block
Earthing distribution block
Your fuses, speaker wire and plates
About 2 metres length of power and earth 8-gague wire

Any questions???

If you want a hand to fit all this, and you want to come to Leicester then i'm sure I can do it for you :D for a few beer tokens.

Doh!!! I'm being thick I nearly forgot.

What type of headunit do you have?
Do you know how many pre-outs it has?
Your going to need RCA leads.
You might get one lot with your wiring kit (you'll need to ask them that).
They cost anywhere between £10-40. depending on quality.
Let me know how many pre-outs you've got and i'll tell you if you need 1 (and an RCA Y-splitter) or 2 seperate lots of RCA leads:)

Hehe, cool, three lots, 1 pair for sub, 1 for front and 1 for back. If you really think we can do it, i don't mind driving up to get it all done, beer tokens, simple :) So i need two more RCA leads? and what cable goes from the amp back up to the fronts? just normal speaker wire?

oh and what are all these fuses and stuff for... (stoopid, stoopid me real stoopid :D)

Right, you'll need 2 lots of RCA cables (though remember to ask if one comes with the wiring kit). These wires run from the headunit to the amps with the speaker signals.

Yes then you use speaker wire out of the amps which goes to the speaker crossovers and then from there to the speakers.

As for fuses, you'll have/need 2 fuses that go in the power distribution block, one fuse for each amp.

Wicked, I'll try and get all that stuff ordered asap then (although the rock kit is out of stock until next week). Just to confirm though, only two sets of RCA, not the one front, one back and one sub? (there are 3 on the head unit).

Woo hoo! Finally.... a plan :D Cheers for all your help mate :D[8D][^]
