Hi. I went to drive my car after having parked overnight. When doing a reverse turn the car shudders and I can feel the steering wheel judder too. The noise is like a squeak/skid and a bit of a grind. I drove it round car park and noticed speedo reading zero. I then decided its not safe to drive. It's happens when turning both left and right.

The car engine is also pretty noisy. I think it's a gear box. But I don't think it's related. Anyone know what it might be? I've checked and both wheels look ok as do the tyres.

As above, check the brakes. You don't say what vehicle it is, but most cars from 2004 use teh ABS signals to drive the speedo. One of these adrift may get caught in the wheel/brakes somewhere, but would expect the ABS light on as well.

Is the steering electric or hydraulic. Is the judder through the car, or in the steering wheel/column.
Electric steering faults will show at the wheel, juddering could be low battery voltage.
Hydraulic steering faults will feel lower down, at floor level. Hydraulic steering will make strange noises at full lock as maximum pressure is used and the relief valve controls it, especially when the oil is cold. Avoid manoeuvring when cold - reverse in, drive out.

Overnight, rust on the discs can make strange scrubbing noises, and some light brake judder, but wears off very quickly.
