Does yours move as far down as the first line below half? Once warm?

No never, but it did come close last winter, heaters on full and driving at tickover due to snow.

That fair enough and normal I'd say as your drawing a load from the heaters, but if it does it when warm outside or the heating isn't on full with it being freezing outside I'd say that the thermostat isnt working properly.

Mine this weekend got up to just about halfway going round town... on the motorway this morning cruising at 60 was just below half, dropped slightly when I turned the heating up, then returned to just below halfway. Fuel consumption is same as it ever was.
