MAP...manifold absolute pressure,I think thats what your talking about.Disconnecting it wont make any difference except log error code/warning light on.
So that's why my engine management light came on !! Thanks again, now going to disconnect the right one. I take it this will have no ill effects on my engine.

Well it's fitted for a reason and disconnection should only really be used to highlight the failure. I disconnected mine yesterday to do just that and the car runs a lot better but I am not sure of the long term effects and will be investing in a new MAF.
Put it this way, if you disconnect the MAF on a VAG pd100 it after about 40 miles it cacks itself and the car starts running like a bag of spanners.
Well guys thanks for the help, it was the maf that was goosed. New one fitted and now going better.
